I have 2 8000HDs and have no problems out of them (failing to record or such). They have some feature limitations that it would be nice to have added but I have no screwups. We don't have the 8300s in our area yet.

Well, technically it wasn't a screwup. Operator error, but it would have been nice for the system to alert me that the recording wouldn't fit into memory. I thought that was standard DVR stuff.

Only once has my 8000HD box reset itself. Oh, and the last time I played BUZZtime, the network scores weren't synced with the local score I had.

But the 8000HD Box I have still has the DD5.1 audio cutouts when playing back stuff.

But, it is lacking some features of the 721 that I do miss, like:
1-Being able to set the recordings to start early or late in one minute increments (I loved the default "1/3-early/late" setting). The 6412 "early start" setting is in 15 minute increments!!??? WTF?
2-Full on-screen menu for all functions. You must power down the 6412 to access some user settings!!??? WTF? The iGuid emenu is also a mishmash of different functions that should be sub-divied into different pages.
3-DVR list of all recorded programs on one page. The 6412 w/iGuide DVR menu includes links to both recorded programs and scheduled recordings, so you need to click multiple times to see your list of recorded shows. Plus, the scheduled recordings are listed per day, instead of all on one screen. If you don't remember what days your recording were scheduled for, it can be a lengthy process to find them. Very very stupid.
4-Multiple favorites lists accessible easily by pressing the guide button. 6412 requires you go to menu first, then choose favorites!!??? WTF?

To compare with the SA8000HD box...

#1 - 8000HD box has the minute feature
#2 - Same behavior on the 8000HD box. You need to turn it off then press some buttons on the set top box (not remote) to access the HD/SD setups.
#3 - 8000HD has one button to get to the recorded programs list
#4 - Favorites Guide, whats that? The 8000HD only has CH+ for the favorites. No guide. No multiple favorites list either. :no

Yes, I never said the box did not have some shortcomings, :D but mine have never lost recordings, failed to record, rebooted spontaniously, etc. We just received a firmware upgrade last week. We finally have passthrough/upconvert enabled as well as DVI. Still no firewaire yet.

You forgot to add N/A in the poll. Here in Hollywood, CA HD-DVR is not available with Comcast. :(
jgantert
Yeah, I didn't think about N/A. :)

Oh, just checked the DVI output again... says DVI output is blocked. And that's all she wrote. Strange, I can go thru the menus and everything, but I cant watch anything but a black screen. (My TV does have HDCP -- it was required by Voom).

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

If Musk really wants to buy Boost, he might get a great price once Dish Wireless is out of Chapter 11.

Boost just lost 182,000 subs in the 3rd quarter-

M
Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Rodney Dangerfield is great. One of his best one liners - "My wife likes to talk to me during sex, last night she called me from Florida!"

Jackie Gleason is another one of the greats.
