A couple of weeks ago I received a C1-PLL C-Band LNBF sample from Brian Gohl over at Titanium Satellite. First thing I noticed was the look, I mean there is not much you can do different as far as looks for a LNBF like this. However, it appears that Brian thought of a way. I like the nice white color and the blue cap. I also like the impressive looking heat sink. Makes it look real and robust. Very sexy comes to mind. I also like how the label was placed inside the unit to keep it out of rain and sunlight. The looks and aesthetic design of this LNBF were well thought out.

First I used it in combination with the Titanium CS1 Conical Feedhorn Scalar, and installed it on my Geosatpro 1.2 Meter Dish. I aimed at 99W and was impressed with the results. I am not that much myself into Minibuding, but since Brian also sent me the CS1 I thought what the heck.

I removed the C1-PLL and installed a DMSI LNBF and took some reading with my meter. I wrote these reading down, and then changed to a Geosatpro C2 LNBF. I wrote down the readings I was getting again and noted an improvement. I then went back to the C1-PLL from Titanium and wrote those readings down. This time I was even more impressed, I didn't think it could get better than my C2. Amazed at how much higher the C1-PLL was or the DRO C2, I then thought well it is not as good as a 10 footer, but now people who can't have a 10-footer have a chance at getting some C-Band and getting a taste for it. Most of the stuff that is in the clear on 99W C-Band was watchable with this 4 Foot dish.

View attachment revLNBF Comparison 99W C2 C1PLL rev.pdf

On to the 10-footer:
I have a 10-foot Unimesh dish. I usually run the C2 on this dish or a Chaparral Feedhorn with C/Ku LNB's and a Chaparral servo.

It has been a couple of years so I decided it was time for a dish re-alignment. Even though it was working ok on things I wanted to watch, I have noticed that some transponders were weaker than they should be. So I went out loosened all the bolts and started from scratch as if this were a new install. After the re-alignment (had the C2 on at the time), I did notice things were back to normal.

Now time to take some readings, on this dish. I chose 87W for this test. I started with the C2 and using the weakest transponder, I tweaked the LNBF in the scalar until I got the best signal possible. I then took reading and wrote them down on a few of the transponders on that satellite.

I then moved on to the C1-PLL. I installed it and again tweaked on the same transponder. This is when my eyes lit up; I could not be seeing what I am seeing. I finished getting it tweaked and started looking at the other transponders and making my notes. I was in awe yet again. Absolutely amazed at what I was seeing. I finished leaving the C1-PLL on and went inside to look at the receiver. I did some checks on different birds and was getting impressive results across the arc.

So with all this good could there be bad? Yep, I began to notice the black hex screws that was used to hold the heat sink on started to rust really fast. There were rust streaks running down my LNBF and making it ugly. I also noticed the ones used on the conical scalar that was still mounted to the other dish were doing the same thing. I contacted Brian about this and he said that this is being fixed and all stock that he has will be professionally replaced with zinc coated screws and if you bought one already and it is a problem, you will receive a free pack of screws to replace the black ones. Very good customer support if you ask me.

To sum things up as far as looks and performance I give this LNBF at 9.9 rating. Now that I will be getting new screws though, it has gone to a 10+. It is still performing excellent and keeps on impressing me.

If you are the type that wants to use a LNBF combo unit and not a separate Feedhorn/servo and LNB/LNB's, then I have to highly recommend this LNBF. I promise, you will not be dissatisfied.

I was originally looking to see if I could lock anything new using a PLL LNBF on a 1M dish for C-band compared to the DMS- BSC421 that I was using. At the time I had not heard of the GeoSat version and had only known of the Titanium version but with no local retailers in my area carrying this LNBF I was at first hesitant to order one online and was just going to stick with what I had. Then my local retailer updated there website with GeoSat version, so me getting excited before doing any real investigating on the GeoSat version( I had heard/read only good things about the Titanium version ) and my local retailer telling me they were virtually the same I went ahead and bought it. After a couple of days of playing around with it I came to the concussion that only 1 of the polarity was actually working so I took it back and got it exchanged for another one. At first I did notice better stability and a slight increase in signal on the strong Tps compared to the BSC421 ( I'm using an OPENBOX S9) but the Tps/channels that were on the edge of staying locked on the BSC421 were not locking when I put on the GeoSat C1 so after a few weeks the BSC421 went back on. Then I noticed a thread in the C-band section( and then this thread ) on this forum asking about how the 2 versions compare, this is where I realized that these 2 products were not the same. I then spoke to Brian @ Titanium and a few days later I got the Titanium C1-PLL LNBF, now just waiting for the snow to melt off my garage roof so I can get it installed and get some testing underway. I have included some pics of each LNBF, so far they only similarities that I can see with my naked eye is that both use the same Blue Cap and there similar names.

I finally got the Titanium C1 PLL on a few weeks ago and have been very happy with its performance, it's the best out of all 3 lnbfs I own. Better signal strength /stability across the arc, anywhere from 1-10% increase and it still locked the weaker transponders that the DMS got but the Geosat would miss. Great example is 3720 H 8700 @ 99W, DMS would get it at night only, Geosat would never scan it and the Titanium gets it every day/all day. Below is list of most transponders I can scan and what each LNBF was getting on my Openbox S9 /1M dish (105x95CM )

*PYRO* Nice review. What's the your dish size?

Replaced a Chaparral corotor and DRO lnbs with a C2W-PLL today on the 10 footer. Used the Chaparral scaler, seemed too much effort required to replace it too and the new LNBF fit just fine. Took a while to get the skew and F/D set and max the signals using 97W, but I think I found the sweet spot and signals are just a bit better with this new LNBF compared to the Corotor/Norsat 5150 pretty much across the board. Very consistent I must say. Only TP that isn't quite full scale was 4080V which shows about 95Q on the AzBox... quite acceptable.
Thought it would be a good idea to change it out today as winter is coming and I had some trouble with the polar motor late last winter on a couple of colder days, and I don't have a spare anymore.
Using the ASC1 to supply power and polarity signals (voltage controlled now). Nice being able to have two receivers on C-band too!.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.

Oh, I Hate the idea ...

It would be different if it was a game that you could play 2 or games each week, but when you only play 1 game a week, the larger playoff is Not a good thing ...

The season has how many games now, is it 14 ... then you want to play another 5 (with more to come) against Top 12 (eventually 24 teams) ... remember, the 5 games in the playoffs will be the hardest games all year and back to back.

For example, IF Ohio State should win it all this year ... they play 5 teams in the Top 25, plus they would play 5 more to win it all, depending on how the ranking shake out and if Bye weeks are given.

Thats 10 Ranked teams ... in one year ...
I don't see that happening very often ...
Edit, Bama plays 4, Georgia plays 3, But Ole Miss plays 5 (didn't expect to see that)

That said, I don't see the Buckeyes winning it all this year.

On Tuesday, I recorded the first episodes of the new season's NCIS shows on CBS (Dish provided, not OTA). The new New York series and Origins will both do Auto Skip, but the original, now season 24 does not. What's stranger, when I do a search for NCIS, Origins and New York show the current recording and the next episode it will record, but the original show only shows the current recording and some other channel showing the very first episode of season one. It makes no sense. When I set up the timers, I was able to use search for Origins and New York, but for the original, I had to scroll ahead in the guide until last Tuesday when the show was airing. Then set the timer from there. You can see its timer type is DVR where the other two are Seek. What am I missing?
Thanks!

With both CBS and Fox autohop (as we know) is not enabled for a week..But after 24 hours if you mash the FF button until the red kangaroo shows up in the bottom right you wont overshoot the program. No need to try to figure how long the break is.

I'm a bit confused about the recording methods.
Do you havePrime Time Anytime enabled, by doing that you don't have to set recordings for Prime time programs on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox stations, it's done daily, 7 days a week.
And only 2 weeks recordings are saved, no deletions either.

For niche use cases, yes I agree. Kali for ethical hacking and security testing, and running a Cacti server for network monitoring are the two things I have experience in. Plus thousands and thousands of other things, but for every day use I just can't see it. The owner of the GMRS repeater that I pay to access is changing the Tx DPL tones tomorrow, while Chirp is available on Linux, the software to program my MXT500 is not.

I run Fedora and Ubuntu in VMWare, honestly I don't care much for the UI of either of them and I don't feel like spending days/weeks to customize the UI to make it look Windows-like when I could just use Windows. The cartoonish dock at the bottom of the screen reminds me of Apple products.
EarDemon
I have no OEM bloat, on CTO devices where I can access the drive, I order it with the smallest allowed drive and crack the device open throw the factory drive in the garbage and put in my own WD Black and install Windows from bootable media. For Windows bloat, I install Windows using the English - World option which limits preinstalled MS bloat.

Windows and Office features I wish to block, like CoPilot and Cortana, macro enabled Office files and others are blocked with GPOs.

Between keeping all software up to date, doing firmware updates, putting IoT devices on a separate VLAN, running Symantec Endpoint (say what you want about it, it's been good to me) and practicing safe hex, I'm vigilant but not paranoid about security.

With NVMe SSDs, my cold boot up time on all devices is under 30 secs as well. Fast boot disabled, BitLocker drive encryption enabled.

I have nothing against Linux, been paying with it on and off since 2004ish, it's just not the right solution for me.
HipKat
it's just not the right solution for me.
As I said above, and, FWIW, I run Win11 Pro and Arch on separate 250 GB NVME drives, using F8 to select which I boot to, with a 1TB SSD for storage, accessible to both OSs and a third formatted Nvme I want to use to learn Kali. It was much faster to setup Arch than it was to strip down Windows. Windows still takes much longer to boot.

What is so fantabulous about the Windows UI? By many accounts, it has been going downhill since Windows 7.

There are Linux desktops that offer Windows or Mac UIs, yet you don't hear much chatter about them outside of questions about when the creators might get sued.

Because it's what I prefer. I know I've said this a few times, I use Open Shell to give me the cascading start menu a la WIN 95 and NT4.0. The only reason I went from Windows Vista to 7 back in the day was because of Classic Shell. I cannot stand anything other than the OG start menu from 30+ years ago. I'm using ExplorerPatcher to give me Windows 10 UI elements of the taskbar and right click context menus.

If you could take a look at how I set up Windows 95, you'd find many similarities to how I use 11.

I could probably use that as a starting point, but I don't like the full size icons. If you have to click on each folder that's also a no-go for me, it has to be cascading.

I used to have Peppermint Linux in a VM, that was about as close as I could get to recreating a Windows NT4.0 style of menu structure, but I could never get it to scale properly in VMWare on a 4K display and eventually gave up.

Whatever the boot up time it's fine with me. The longest part of my bootup is the HP SureStart BIOS integrity check. Once that is done, it's only a few more seconds. I haven't done this reg tweak yet since the reformat, but I switched the bootup animation to the Windows 10 style spinning circle of dots, and it's two and a half rotations. I can live with that.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Finished it this evening. General impressions with no story spoilers, but will spoil it anyways as it just came out today.

Not quite as impactful of a finale as past seasons I thought, we'll see how far down the rabbit hole things go as the latest plot twists and turns unravel. Thought this season had a full episode or two too much rom-com style disagreements, but it was more or less paid off later. Ultimately didn't enjoy that being more of a throughline in the stories this season compared to what I remember of the priors.

My least favorite of the 3 seasons, but still very good. Really wonder how far they'll go with things, hard to see a nuclear attack or something ever actually happening. They just had a better story to tell and more meaningful beats in the prior season.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

As an edit, you need to sub to the National Action Pack at $12 a month to receive those channels.
