Microsoft is rolling out build 10586.218 for Windows 10 Mobile

http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-rolling-out-build-10586218-for-windows-10-mobile

Microsoft has begun rolling out the April cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile. As with most cumulative updates, it doesn't contain any new features, but it does contain fixes.

Here's the change log:

  • Reliability, performance and stability improvements.

  • Support for Visual Voicemail on Dual SIM phones.

  • Improvements for Bluetooth connectivity, including the reliability of connecting to and staying connected with Bluetooth devices.

  • Fix for a problem that caused audio playback to get occasionally interrupted in Groove Music and other music apps when phone display was turned off.

  • Improvements for Microsoft Edge browser, including support for configuring a prompt before a file download occurs, support for background downloads, and a fix for a problem where opening a link from an another app wouldn't load the web page.

  • Reliability improvements for Cortana reading text messages aloud and usability improvements for Quiet Hours feature.

  • Improvements for Store reliability, including a fix for a problem that prevented some apps from being updated and installed.

  • Fix for a problem that occasionally caused some apps to show blank tiles after upgrading from Windows Phone 8.1.

  • Improvements for PC connectivity via USB on some phones that were upgraded fromWindows Phone 8.1.
The update is available to both the Production ring and the Release Preview ring; however, it's important to note that cumulative updates are no longer rolling out through the Slow ring, as that is reserved for Redstone builds now.

It's also worth noting that the update is available for devices that aren't officially supported for the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade. Those devices can still get updates through the Release Preview ring for the time being.

Windows 10 Mobile officially supports Snapdragon 830, among other new chipsets

http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-...ports-snapdragon-830-among-other-new-chipsets

At Mobile World Congress this year, HP announced the long awaited Elite x3, a Windows 10 Mobile device powered by a Snapdragon 820 that wouldn't be coming until this summer. This led many to speculate about why it wouldn't be released until summer, suggesting that it would be released alongside the Anniversary Update - or Redstone 1, as it was known at the time.

But what did the Elite x3 need from Redstone? Microsoft's mobile platform has historically been slow to embrace silicon innovation, so was it waiting for Snapdragon 820 support? According to MSDN documentation, no; the platform supports the chipset right now, as well as the unannounced Snapdragon 830.

The full list is MSM8994, MSM8992, MSM8952, MSM8909, MSM8208, MSM8996, MSM8953, and MSM8998. This translates to Snapdragon 810, 808, 617, 210, 208, 820, 625, and 830, in that order.

The page also lists support for APQ8092, APQ8094, and APQ8009 in Wi-Fi only devices that run Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise. Those refer to Snapdragon 808, 810, and 210.

Finally, below that, there's a plethora of chipsets that can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile, which interestingly enough, contains all of the Snapdragon S4 SoCs that weren't allowed an official Windows 10 Mobile upgrade. Perhaps more interesting is that the minimum system requirements have been bumped up to 1 GB RAM.

What might be more unsurprising is that of the three lists, there are only Qualcomm chipsets listed. Windows 10 Mobile has still not added support for anything that's made by MediaTek or any other ARM chip OEM.

It's refreshing to see Microsoft staying ahead of the curve for once. Windows Phone 8 only supported the dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipsets. The Lumia 1020 was released with that SoC at a time when Android phones were shipping with the quad-core Snapdragon 800.

Windows Phone 8 Update 3 brought support for the quad-core Snapdragon 800, in preparation forWindows Phone 8.1, which also brought support for the quad-core Snapdragon 200 and 400. Of course, this was at a time when Android phones were shipping with the Snapdragon 801.

Yes, Windows phones have historically been one step behind. In fact, the HP Elite x3 was announced on the same day as the LG G5 and the Galaxy S7, making that the first time that a Windows phone has been one of the first handsets to be announced with a brand new flagship chipset.

The rumor mill says that the Snapdragon 830 will have a 10 nm process, support up to 8 GB RAM, and that it will use the Kryo technology that Qualcomm has implemented in the Snapdragon 820. The GPU will likely be upgraded from the Adreno 530 as well, probably to Adreno 630.

Microsoft confirms 64-bit version of Windows 10 Mobile is on the way

http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-confirms-64-bit-version-of-windows-10-mobile-is-on-the-way

The version of Windows 10 Mobile available today is 32-bit, but Microsoft quietly confirmed today that a 64-bit version is in development for its smartphones - and we may not have to wait too much longer for its arrival.

The information was revealed in a feature that Microsoft published today on 74-year-old Dave Cutler, who had a key role in developing many of the company's most significant products, and whose five decades of work in the tech industry will be formally recognized when he is made a Computer History Museum Fellow in a ceremony this weekend.

The article includes this paragraph, which reveals that detail about 64-bit Windows 10 Mobile:

Cutler stopped managing the entire NT project in 1996, but continued to lead the kernel development until 2006. In March 2005, he completed one of his "most gratifying pieces of work" at Microsoft when, partnering with AMD, he helped develop the AMD64 architecture (64-bit extensions to the 32-bit x86 architecture) and led the effort to ship the first two x64 64-bit Windows systems (workstation and server). At the time, some questioned why Microsoft developed a 64-bit system; today most computers are 64-bit systems and even our phones will soon have a 64-bit operating system.

64-bit support on Windows 10 Mobile will open up new features and capabilities, along with additional hardware options, including devices with more than 4GB of RAM. These new features will also pave the way for future devices to run more complex and resource-intensive applications, potentially making the operating system's PC-like Continuum mode even more compelling.

It's worth pointing out that, for now, all Universal Windows Platform apps that run on ARM mobile hardware are compiled in 32-bit, and Microsoft doesn't yet offer a 64-bit option. ARM64 support may well come later, but we'll have to wait and see how that plays out.

Microsoft hasn't yet revealed when it plans to introduce the new 64-bit version of Windows 10 Mobile, but with confirmation that that support is coming "soon", it's possible that it will arrive as part of the upcoming Anniversary Update to the OS this summer.

Microsoft releases Windows 10 Mobile build 14327 to the Fast ring

http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-releases-windows-10-mobile-build-14327-to-the-fast-ring

icrosoft has released a new Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build to the Fast ring. This time, it's build 14327 and like 14322, it contains a few new features.

The build comes just six days after the last one, but there's still no sign of a PC build, which Gabe Aul had said is coming this week.

Here's what's new:

Try out the Messaging Everywhere Preview
You can now try out the preview of the "Messaging everywhere" feature in Windows 10 that allows you to send and receive text messages from your phone directly from your Windows 10 PC's.

o enable this:

  • Make sure you are signed in with your Microsoft Account (MSA).
  • On your phone – make sure "Send texts on all my Windows devices" is turned on.
  • On your PC – make sure you have chosen which phone to send messages through. You do this in the settings of the Messaging app on your PC (screenshot above).
Try it out and less us know what you think via the Feedback Hub.

NOTE: You may have noticed that Skype integration in the Messaging app in this build of Windows 10 Mobile has been removed. This is so Skype can streamline your experience, replacing the integration with the Skype UWP Preview app for mobile in an upcoming build. In the meantime, you can use the existing Skype for Windows Phone app available in the Windows Store.

Cortana in more languages
With this build, we are enabling Cortana for the Spanish (Mexico), Portuguese (Brazil) and French (Canada) languages for Mobile (available previously in PC builds). If you're running the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview in these languages – give Cortana a try and let us know what you think. For each new market and language, the Cortana Team works to develop a custom experience that is relevant in each individual market and language. These are early versions that we will continue improve based on your feedback and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Voice input is also now available for these languages. Set focus to a text field and tap the microphone above the keyboard to give it a try.

If you're on the Fast ring, you can grab this build right now by heading over to Windows Update on your supported Windows phone.

Windows 10 Mobile preview lets you text from your PC

http://www.engadget.com/2016/04/21/windows-10-mobile-preview-lets-you-text-from-your-pc/

Microsoft is trying hard to unify Windows 10 across devices, so now your PC can act like a phone. The latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Previewupdate features an app called "Messaging Everywhere" that lets you send and receive cellular text messages from a Windows 10 PC. You'll need to have a supported Windows 10 Preview mobile device, like a Lumia 650 or950, and activate the feature from your Microsoft account, as below. That will sync up messages on all your selected Windows 10 devices, so you can send and receive SMS messages without pulling out a phone.

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

If you know the folks who have fiber, strike a deal with them and pay for a Wavlink AX3000. I've installed these for customers and they will light up abut 10 acres. One customer is linking her security camera to it and the cam is about 1,000 ft from the radio. These are also usable as repeaters so you could install one at your house for that purpose. Heck, offer to pay 75% of their monthly bill if that's what it takes.

People that Own the poles ?
That would be ATT Or the Power Company depending on the situation ... easily figured out by looking at the Tag on All Poles.

Might not be an option, due to easements. I can't see governments allowing public property (easements) for exclusive use by just one company.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

I have not been updated to 715 yet. I am on a QE "Beta" or Test version that did fix the audio issue. The last communication I had with the team mentioned that the full release of that fix was likely in December.
It would be nice to know if 715 does solve that issue of no audio when Dolby is ON, during 4K HDR events.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Chia Seeds
Kinda the whole idea is to mention something and explain WHY it is something we might want to add to our daily routine.
This is what I got from google. Looks like I'm going to be adding them, thanks

Key Health Benefits
    • Digestive Health: One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides nearly 10 grams of fiber, which promotes regular bowel movements, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps prevent constipation. [1, 2]
    • Heart and Cardiovascular Support: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)—an essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid—chia seeds can help lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, and improve cholesterol profiles. [1, 2, 3]
    • Blood Sugar Regulation: The combination of soluble fiber and protein slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes after meals. [1, 2]
    • Weight Management: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water. The resulting gel expands in the stomach, increasing feelings of fullness and curbing appetite. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone Strength: They contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for maintaining bone density. [1, 2, 3]
    • Antioxidant Protection: Compounds like chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid help fight cellular damage from free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. [1, 2, 3]

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

Another supplement I wanted to mention was Luteolin. This has two major benefits
1) it helps improve your memory
2) it has a unique anti-greying affect. Saw a Daily Mail news story about a year ago I guess and they were testing different antioxidants on black mice and found that the ones they gave luteolin to barely greyed at all where the control group greyed normally. Has something to do with this stuff preventing the hair roots from becoming damaged which is one of the causes of going grey.

Now I've been taking this supplement for a long time and at 62 I barely have any grey hairs at all.
If it would only help improve my ability to remember NAMES!!

Well, besides Luteolin, which I already mentioned. I also take Creatine which helps with memory and mental fatigue. It also helps with faster recovery times when doing hard physical labor, or workouts.

Given that Tubi is one of the hottest FAST services out there, I don't expect it to go anywhere. Building up intolerance for ads takes a while, and as long as the advertisers are willing to foot the bill, why not?

That is what I have to explain to customers all the time. They want it free with no ads :facepalm

Hmmm. Not watching much Prime, but it would be on our Apple TV STB.

You know of any drawbacks using Ultra and Prime?

Prime seems to have a problem passing the DV/HDR metadata to Roku and Apple devices, but no problem with their Fire devices.

The ads are boring and repetitive...same ad over and over...bring back 1970s ads..might not be as big an issue

Shouldn't this thread be in the IPTV forum?

Had a customer come in a couple weeks ago to pay her internet bill. She let me know in no uncertain terms that she did NOT appreciate me running the same ads over and over. I looked at her and waited for her to laugh and say she was just joking.......still waiting for that laugh.

There is one there too. I would think either is justifiable as they make both the device and provide a streaming program service.

Really excited for this season with Kentucky having a new coach and some really exciting recruits. Probably won't last long, but here's hoping this season is great.

Parity is growing in College Football. Making it even harder to tell who is better than each other.

I agree to a point. The transfer policy is creating parity, but only for the top 20-25 teams. The other 110+ teams in the FBS are just breeding grounds for the bigger schools which have more money and more recruiting appeal.

If a smaller school recruits, trains, and matures a quality player, they can't keep them past their sophomore year because the bigger schools snatch them up. Example: LSU didn't cultivate Sam Leavitt, they just harvested him from other schools. LSU is a top contender, in large part because of Leavitt. Michigan State and Arizona State.................are not. If either of those schools had been able to retain his services, who knows where they would be now.

Coach says afternoon game result of SEC "conspiracy". The rivalry game vs. Ala. will kick off in the afternoon at Baton Rouge rather than at night, which head coach Lane Kiffin says is intentional in order to neutralize fan craziness and noise, which is believed to help lead to wins for squads playing at home. "Obviously the SEC wanted to change this year from how it had been to give LSU less advantage, (considering) how well LSU plays at night and how intimidating it is to play here. So I guess when I look at it that way, I'm not surprised."

But he's come up with an ingenious solution. "Go to bed earlier Fri. night, then start your day earlier. Have breakfast earlier. Start drinking earlier. Whatever your routine is, just move it up."

Meantime ads have been running for a "Protect College Sports Act" moving through Congress.
