Cablevision's Advanced Network Delivers 100 Megabit Dedicated Access Services Over Existing Network Facilities

BETHPAGE, N.Y. and WESTFORD, Mass., June 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cablevision Systems Corp., (NYSE: CVC - News) and Narad Networks, Inc., a provider of business class broadband access solutions using switched Ethernet over cable, today announced the completion of a successful trial and targeted deployment of a new 100 megabit-per-second (Mbps) data service using the Narad Broadband Access Network (NBAN) and Cablevision's existing network facilities that pass more than 4.4 million homes and hundreds of thousands of businesses in the New York metropolitan area.

In the initial targeted deployment of this high-speed service in Oyster Bay, Long Island, Cablevision is providing a committed information rate of 50 Mbps, out of the available 100 Mbps, symmetrical services. The installation leverages and further extends the capabilities of Cablevision's existing state-of-the-art fiber and coaxial (HFC) network, and reflects the superior speed, features and functionality Cablevision is delivering today to both business and residential customers through its robust consumer offering and Lightpath suite of business services.

"This initial deployment of a 100 Mbps data service is a powerful and unmistakable indication of the enormous capacity of our state-of-the-art network," said Wilt Hildenbrand, Cablevision's executive vice president of technology and engineering. "Our operations people are extremely pleased with how fast and easy the process was, and our product and marketing people are excited to have the Narad technology available to tap more of the intrinsic capabilities of our network to serve very high capacity demands. This demonstrates that our HFC networks, in addition to our pure fiber networks, have no inherent capacity limits for multiple levels of residential as well as commercial services, and can provide this very high level of service without the expense and time delay of network redesign or new construction."

In the current deployed architecture, NBAN provides up to 100 Mbps of dedicated symmetric Ethernet on each of the four coaxial cable trunks in an HFC node, enabling Cablevision to economically provide enterprise-grade, unmatched bandwidth services while preserving all existing infrastructure and previously deployed video, voice and Internet services.

The Cablevision installation uses Narad's coax-based outdoor Ethernet switches, which leverage the spectrum above 860 MHz to create new, QoS-managed bandwidth. The use of a switching fabric assures data security and network monitoring needed for enterprise telecom services. The Narad architecture evolution will allow 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps symmetric Ethernet to be carried, in the last mile, over any combination of fiber, coax, and wireless transmission media.

"Cablevision has been a leader in advanced broadband services, and now they are jumping ahead in extending that capability and bandwidth offering deeper into their market," said John C. Petrillo, chairman and chief executive officer of Narad Networks. "We're honored to be working with them in this enhanced broadband deployment, further validating Narad's out-of-band Ethernet overlay solution. The time-to-market and performance of our technology allows MSOs to be proactive in their very high capacity, enterprise level, broadband services rollouts and take full advantage of the huge revenue opportunities in this space."

About Narad Networks

Narad Networks, Inc. provides cable operators with cost-effective solutions to create new, managed, symmetric capacity on existing cable networks. Narad enables the delivery of highly profitable broadband voice and data services over cable infrastructure while minimizing capital expenditures and accelerating free cash flow. The company's solution leverages the previously unusable frequency spectrum to overlay secure, switched Ethernet onto existing HFC networks. The solution can be installed in phases, only adding equipment to those portions of the plant that lie directly between the node and the business customer. Narad's solution enables cable operators to offer services such as Voice-over IP, T1/E1 voice, symmetric broadband Ethernet up to 100 Mbps, and virtual private networks. The Narad solution adds 400 Mbps symmetric capacity to each HFC node. Business customers include small-to-medium businesses (SMBs), mobile and WiFi operators, enterprise customers, schools and municipalities.

Narad was recently awarded its key patent, "Network Architecture for Intelligent Network Elements." This patent pertains to Narad's method of transmitting data over coaxial cable, which combines legacy signals below 860 MHz with out-of-band high frequency data signals. The technology enables the augment the cable network with switched Ethernet.

Founded in July 2000 and based in Westford, Massachusetts, Narad Networks is a privately held company with venture funding from Polaris Venture Partners, Argo Global Capital, and other leading venture capital firms. For more information, visit http://www.naradnetworks.com .

Beta Testing for the residential "tiered broadband" is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks.
S
Is this going to be available to every OL sub? Is there going to be a different tier in pricing?
MergaTroy6
My understanding is that there will be 3 levels of service. The current speed of 3-5mb, and then 2 above that. I would imagine that there would be different pricing.

I honestly do not know when the roll out is planned. My best guess is that it it will be a controlled release in the areas targeted by Verizon, than it will go system wide.

btw, Beta testing is currently limited to a few dozen employees.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

Losing 144,000 internet customers surprises me more.

Comcast called fiber pricing "irrational" because the ROI is over three years. What is irrational to me is Comcast internet is based on lines they put in the ground decades ago at this point, for the most part. Is copper that much more expensive to maintain?

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

The fiber coming in to the house looks like 300 ohm old TV wire I think that is the weak point.

They have been losing broadband subscribers for about 4 years now.

Charter lost 77,000 TV subscribers, the bigger news, it lost 233,000 broadband subscribers.

You would believe both companies would of learned from what happened with their TV services, which was ignore that cord cutting was a thing, allowed competition ( streaming) to get a foothold in the industry.

Now, in today's world, there are more households in the United States without a paid live TV than those with.

Both companies charge too much, delayed upgrades, all because they believed no one would leave them, only game in town, competition started with the 5G services, Fiber soon after, enough said, Cord Cutting 2.0 is here.

Got to admit I never thought I'd see the day that cable lost internet subs.

Got to admit I never thought I'd see the day that cable lost internet subs.
I think the cable companies didnt either, back when they had no real competition in their footprint.

But today, for many, maybe even most, cable isnt the only choice, or even the best.

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.
M
Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Hate to say this no one is ordering Satellite TV. Both DISH and Direct no new customers.
After 25 years with centurylink DSL 80 speed i changed to Xfinity 300 speed for $50 wow lightning fast for streaming. Still have DISH 27 years with them. Americas 250 package for $103. What you think of superbox or vseebox for streaming is it legal?
Still dish is easy to operate and change channels. What will Charlie Ergen do with new super satellites with loosing customers with satellites and boost?
