I purchased the X2 Premium Mini HD from Amazon. This is a low priced satellite receiver, and yet it has many features. I have not tested all the features, but I will report on what I have seen so far. I had hoped to use this to stream video over my WiFi to my Android 4.1 Netbook. This receiver has the capability to do this, but I was not totally successful. I believe that the problem was with my netbook, and not the X2 since the netbook did confirm a connection to the X2. I did receive audio with partial video from the receiver. My purpose was to use this to stream the video to my netbook, so that I could adjust the dish remotely. This is not going to work for me, but with a smart phone you may find this feature very beneficial.

Nevetheless, the receiver is so small – a little larger than the size of a pack of cigarettes – that it is easy to use at the dish for adjustments, with a display that takes either HDMI or NTSC video as both are output from the receiver. The cables going to the unit take more room than the set itself.

The receiver presents video in 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p and 1080i/p formats. The picture quality is excellent.

Connection to in home WiFi is made through USB dongle with antenna, which is supplied. I found no problem with this.

The menus show selection for DiSEqc 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 0/22k Hz and USALS. I have tested the DiSEqc 1.0 and the 0/22k Hz functions and they are working on my system. I have not tested the other selections.

Menus are available for a variety of channel editing functions, using the remote. I am not aware of any software for editing the channel list on a PC.

The unit comes with 2 remotes. One is a full function remote, and the other is a simple remote with only the basic functions.

I found the unit easy to setup and get started. It scans channels well, and the tuner seems quite sensitive.

One feature that I found unique is the remote sensor. The sensor is not on the receiver itself, but is a separate piece, which connects with a mini-USB cable. The sensor unit can be attached to the TV set, or another smooth surface. The current channel number is displayed on the unit, or if turned off, the display says "OFF", and when turned on it says "BOOT" until the system comes up. The letters and numbers are of good size to be read across the room, and the illumination from the display has enough brightness to be useful as a night light in the room.

It does not do 4:2:2, but it does do DVB-S2.

For the price, in my opinion, this makes an excellent spare receiver, or good choice for a receiver to use for dish alignment.

Well it's going back after several very frustrating exchanges with X2. After repeatedly trying to explain the clock would reset itself to the factory settings whenever the unit was put into standby mode this is the latest, incomprehensible response:

The time setting since this receiver use "eco setting" so the voltage will be as less as possible and this is mean the receiver will be in (Shutdown mode and not standby) and this to be match with FCC requirement at 2014

If they can't address a simple clock issue I don't get that warm and fuzzy feeling about their ability to troubleshoot the Ku issue. Back she goes. Too bad really, it did a great job scanning in C-band but without a functioning clock there is no timer support so PVR is useless and the non-functioning Ku is a deal breaker. Hope you other guys have better luck.

The newer batch of M1HD apparently still has the issues. If not driving a motor and only powering a single LNB(f) at a time, this STB should be fine. For multiple fixed dishes, you should use a powered multi-switch or DiSEqC switch, which only powers the selected port.

Since most receivers are manufactured in China and with my experience with many factories, I disagree with the blanket statement regarding QC. The build quality is one decided and enforced by the distributor. The brand can pay and monitor to build quality or go cheap to maximize profits.

Maybe start another thread regarding STB recommendations so we don't hijack this thread.

Agree 100%. An example is the ASC-1. When the distributor, guess who, told the China people to build it "my way" we ended up with a more than well built device from China.
.
And, yes, my M1HD+ still does have some issues: No editor and no answer from them.

Agreed, some very very high quality electronics can and do come from China, I was referring to the bad manufacturers from China that flood the market with less than stellar products. As you said it is entirely up to the builder and it is unfortunate that the bad ones seem to flood the markets the most. In the radio broadcast biz it is a HUGE problem.

To stay on topic I'll be sure to post my results, hopefully mine will be a good one! :)

The clock works on my full-size X2 Premium HD (non-mini). However, there's no memory retention of time/timer settings, so when power is lost the time and my programmed schedule is reset.

Been using mine for a few years for Ku band FTA, no problems with overheating so far (I keep it propped up on it's wiring so it has open space all around), not the best OTA STB on the market but the price was great from Amazon. One plus is the wired IR sensor that can be attached to the front of the TV allowing you more wiggle room for the STB (really a misnomer, it's about the size of a pack of cigs hi hi). At times it fails to find the satellite (Sadoun H-H motor, USALS) but other STBs also did the same, just a matter of waiting until the system sorts it out hi hi.

That's because the one good thing the administration is doing is finally going after the fake and non-domiciled CDL drivers, opening the door to hire more valid drivers and hopefully will push the rates back up.

My Win10 desktop was freezing all the time and two different guys told me probably needed a new HHD. I am OLD and finally after two days got 10 re-installed. Then I would selet to do update's would lock up. Maybe i should have let it do them at night. I have shut off updates for 30 days to see how it runs. Seems to be running fine but what will happen if it does not update. It was my understanding MS was not going to support them but when i did the new install it gave me the option for them to continue for 6 more months.

Why stick with an OS that's losing support??
For me, it is mostly about the abject failure Microsoft's "support" has turned out to be. Their "support" has been at least as much of a millstone as a life preserver. This behavior on Microsoft's part arguably shouldn't be "supported".

The last "Patch Tuesday" (June 9) laundry list included 200 issues, including five known zero-days and one exploited zero-day. There were 38 "critical" vulnerabilities, including 28 Remote Code Executions, four Elevation of Privileges, and an Information Disclosure.

Among all "threat level" classes:
  • 65 Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities
  • 19 Security Feature Bypass Vulnerabilities
  • 55 Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities
  • 30 Information Disclosure Vulnerabilities
  • 7 Denial of Service Vulnerabilities
  • 27 Spoofing Vulnerabilities
According to Bleeping Computer, users who are up-to-date with Windows 11 may experience problems (that don't throw an error) with third-party applications trying to open Office applications using OLE -- a core feature of Office since 1990.

Just yesterday, with the help of a one-man, third-party support site for Windows, I was able to get past a Windows Extended Security Updates activation error that has been plaguing me since October. The fix involved changing an obscurely-named registry entry from one to zero.

I still haven't figured out why Windows thinks I'm enrolled in the Windows Insider Program and, if I am, under what Microsoft account.
HipKat
I read all that stuff, and I feel like blah blah, whatever. I use Windows about 40% of the time now, for work-related things I need Windows for, and none of that stuff affects anything I do. And that includes web browsing and posting forums just like this one.
As for Insider Program, have you checked in Windows Update under the Insider tab to make sure? That's where you join and leave the program

That's where it shows that I'm part of the program. One must log into the associated Microsoft account to opt out of the program.

Many, if not most, users have access to only one computer and can't fall back on another for their secure transactions.

I maintain a Windows 10 machine specifically to do my income taxes.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm still experimenting with OTA antennas at my new apartment. The mudflap works OK, but we had a dust/wind/rain storm the other day and it all but blew it away. I moved it indoors where the antenna is safer but the signals are marginal.

I bought a traditional Yagi antenna from Amazon and it seems to work more consistently, plus it's meant for outdoors where the mudflap is not.

Anyway, I've had success using umbrella bases paired with a fence post for satellite dishes, and I figured that could work for this as well. I'm just not sure where or what to get and what size pole for this application.

Go to Home Depot and buy a length of "Top Rail" used in making chain link fences. I used a 10' section to mount my Winegard which is probably 4X the size of the yagi you bought from Amazon. It's been up for 15+ years of NM springtime winds and storms with no issues. They make 2 sizes. 1 3/8" and 1 5/8" diameter. Do you have a balcony railing you can clamp to?

BTW does that antenna do VHF HI or is it just UHF?

I suppose PVC would probably work also?
Yeah, I guess so. I've never tried that though. I'd be concerned with UV deterioration from the NM sun. Some PVC may be UV resistant. I just don't know.
I would be concerned with the heat and its effect on bending of the PVC. I would think at the 1-1/2" O.D. even Schedule 80 wouldn't be stiff enough to prevent movement in a strong wind. It might be too much movement and deteriorate ATSC reception if it's much more than 4' long.

For what it's worth, I've been using a piece of 1-1/4 white PVC well pipe to mount a 90cm dish to a 4x4 post as a temporary mount. Almost 9 years later it's still there and has not degraded in the sun (CT sun might not be as harsh as in NM, but still, that thing is in the sun for most of the day)

My Joey 4 is installed on a bedroom tv.

The diamond buttons had been reset.

I thought this was unusual.

I had to reprogram the double diamond button for PIP which I watch.

No problem.

PIP feature on the Joey 4 had been used to watch two channels at once which I thought was the limitation being only two channels vs.Hopper 3's multi-view four channels.

This time when I selected the PIP feature I noticed an option for Multi-View?

Could this be?

Yes it could.

This software update does this.

Multi-view PIP (4 channels) Is Now Available on Joey 4.

This is freaking awesome and very surprising!!!

Ok, I'm bored .... actually - to be more precise - I'm bored of eating the same rotation of 9 or 10 meals that are currently my "go-to" meals. My wife works the long hours - I work from home as and when i feel like it ... which means i generally do most of the cooking ... and so by default - i also make out the shopping list ...

We cook at home 5 or even 6 nights a week - but we always seem to fall back on the same old tried and tested "quick and easy but tastes ok" meals. Week in week out.

Pot Roast - mash and Peas.
Spaghetti
Chicken Pasta in cheese sauce.
Curry & rice
(these are some of mine)

Now it's not that I'm not adventurous in the kitchen ... I'll try anything once or twice ... but we all do it. Unless your name is Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray .. we all eventually fall back on our 8-10 favorite "meals"

So i thought - if we shared some of our own go-to meals with each other ... we might be able to add a few "new" ones to our own arsenal of meals.

So again - I ask you ...

What's for dinner tonight ?

Please give me something new to add to my rotation ... its our weekly shop tomorrow - so i want to pull together a few idea's and try and eat a meal each day next week that I've never had before .. or at least something that is not on my current "go-to" meal plan.

What meal do you always seem to fall back on in your house ? Maybe its something that I've never tried or not had in a while. I need inspiration !! I've got a blank shopping list in front of me - and nothing sounds good .. HELP !

Recently had a Hopper 3 installed and noticed that I have a green bar at the top of my screen, also occasionally a thin green line on the right side. I have tried switching hdmi ports on the tv as well as different cables. My only thought is that it is the age of the TV. Thoughts and suggestions?

Tried the Adjust Screen settings and the green bar was still present. Did have a random day when the green bar was gone, but it came back. Did look at the TV setting and found I could stretch the screen a little where the green bar was gone, but it does cut off things across the edges of the picture slightly. Likely will start shopping for a new TV as mine is close to 20 years old and the Dis Remote doesn't seem to like the TV.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Yeah, 20 years is a good time for retirement. You can get a nice new 4K/HDR TV for a very reasonable price even for large ones.

I suggest you get an LG Oled 4k TV. You will love the picture on this thing from all angles in the room. The picture is the best I've seen ever. I have the B 3 series 55 inch TV and it was on sale in the fall of 2024 for like $749.00 - because they sell off their older models when they reach end of year.

I even bought one for my parents. They had a huge living room and sit at the weirdest angles with their furniture and the viewing angle was a problem using just about any TV we tried, but not with the LG Oled Tv. They love the picture. Walmart sells them and so does Amazon.

So does Costco & Sam's Club - & both places give an extended 5-year warranty at no extra charge
