Has anyone had any problems running a Hopper 3 on a UPS? After taking a close lightening strike several years ago I run all of my Audio/Visual equipment on a UPS. I read on the Dish Network support site about someone that had a problem with several Hopper 3s on a UPS.

This has nothing to do with Hopper. But, can a 65 inch TV be used on a UPS backup? Also if true would this be the same type that works with a computer?

Yes and yes... My TV is plugged into the same UPS that the H3 is plugged in to.

Any specifications on your USB you can write in here so I know which one to look for. I would love to have everything in my dwelling on a USB. Well except for refrigerator, stove, radar range. Would need tp purchase a few USBs but, that would be OK.

I now use CyberPower and Tripp UPSs only. APC's fail often, don't last long and error, shutdown, for the strangest reasons that APC can't figure out. I just donated a stack of them. I read an article a while back where APC was at the bottom of the list mainly due to the lack of build quality and having to replace the batteries often. Just my experience.

It would appear most PCs run on UPS with no issues (for the short times they may have to..) and have been doing so for generations. I doubt having a pure sine wave would is much of a factor for 'most' consumer electronics that generally use fairly tolerant switching supplies. But a power interruption during a read/write on a hard drive could certainly be an issue, and the primary reason most would use an UPS as well as being able to switch off power manually (if they are home) and allow a more gentle shutdown. Besides losing data, failing network communications like a VOIP phone system, is also a consideration.

Most other electronics can survive without an UPS especially if they don't provide a service beyond 'entertainment'. But it might be wise to use some power protection that would remove power in case of an over or under voltage situation. During power events often the best connection is no connection at all.

I had the same experience with APC so gave up on them and now use CyberPower and one Tripplit.
I managed to cobble together enough batteries from failed APCs to get one working, for now. It will be out the door when it next tells me to replace batteries.

Had what could have been a bad experience in my last house. Lost power and when it came back on it was only 80 volts. Pulled the plug on the refrigerator and made sure that the furnace blower didn't try to run. No about of UPSes could have kept me going then.

I have a CyberPower 1500VA Active Sine Wave on my TV equipment (Plasma, BD Player, EHD powe supplies, Apple TV) and I sprung for an OptiUPS GNL 1500VA Pure Sine Wave for the Hopper, Denon AVR and a few other things). I have a 20KW Generac natural gas generator with an automatic transfer switch that can run everything (except Dryer so we just don't use it during a power failure).

So I only need the UPS's to keep the equipment alive until the generator spins up and comes online (about 40 seconds). On top of power line conditioning I wanted to insure that I never miss a recording by a power failure causing the Hopper to drop out and reboot. It's pretty weird that when we have a power failure, all the lights go out in the house, but the entire Multimedia center continues to work (TV and all) until the generator kicks in. I made sure the Pure Sine wave unit powers the Denon receiver and Hopper). They also protect against the surge or dropout when the power comes back and the transfer switch, switches to utility power.

Yup, I'm a TV and PC geek..

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Hate to say this no one is ordering Satellite TV. Both DISH and Direct no new customers.
After 25 years with centurylink DSL 80 speed i changed to Xfinity 300 speed for $50 wow lightning fast for streaming. Still have DISH 27 years with them. Americas 250 package for $103. What you think of superbox or vseebox for streaming is it legal?
Still dish is easy to operate and change channels. What will Charlie Ergen do with new super satellites with loosing customers with satellites and boost?

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

Comcast called fiber pricing "irrational" because the ROI is over three years. What is irrational to me is Comcast internet is based on lines they put in the ground decades ago at this point, for the most part. Is copper that much more expensive to maintain?

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

The fiber coming in to the house looks like 300 ohm old TV wire I think that is the weak point.

The weak point would be the connection between the outdoor feed and the indoor feed.

Copper lines are fine ... until it hits the AIR.

They have been losing broadband subscribers for about 4 years now.

Charter lost 77,000 TV subscribers, the bigger news, it lost 233,000 broadband subscribers.

You would believe both companies would of learned from what happened with their TV services, which was ignore that cord cutting was a thing, allowed competition ( streaming) to get a foothold in the industry.

Now, in today's world, there are more households in the United States without a paid live TV than those with.

Both companies charge too much, delayed upgrades, all because they believed no one would leave them, only game in town, competition started with the 5G services, than Fiber, enough said, Cord Cutting 2.0 is here.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
