1: Lack of Fox News Go streaming access.

2: Dish is HD-Lite

3: I can't get as many locals with Dish whether my service address is at actual location or at a "moved" location. Such as CW in my actual area, more PBS stations in whatever address I use, or SV locals that I could use when "moved".

If Dish fixes those things, I'll switch right away!

Regarding the HDMI cable debate: I'll need to see the results of at least 3 seperate double blind tests. Enough, properly done, double blind tests have been perfromed regarding "Hi-Res audio" and higher sampling rates for audio recording for us to come to the truth, regardless of what are ears and brains THINK they hear.

I shall reserve judgment--and my wallet--until I can review at least 3, independant, properly done, unbiased (not conducted by a cable making company) double-blind tests. I haven't really searched for them, but I just wouldn't want to spend too much on cables anyway. I've found that using my same HDMI "inexpensive" cables, that each upgrade of the Dish box has resulted in better and better PQ having never changed the HDMI cable. The 722K had noticable better PQ; then the Hopper had noticably better PQ; then the HWS had noticably better PQ, just as an example I've experienced, but the difference was easy to notice and others who did not know the box was changed out said they thought I was getting better PQ for some reason, now that was interesting. This seems to suggest the "cheap" cable is doing all it can and the real culprit of PQ is the hardware and software of whatever connected device is ouputting the data, assuming the same display and no changes in the displays settings, as was the case in my upgrades over the years.

But, I still would like to see the 3 double blind tests.

I concur with you. There needs to be a certified double blind test. There has been several other post in the past about the different quality of HDMI cables. I think it is time for this to be officially tested by a credible source. I am sure there is better quality in material and workmanship in the cables but I would like to see the different companies/products ranked so we could make a decision on what to purchase.

Of course there are a lot more channels available now, but "back in the day", we use to have a lot of fun signal/satellite hopping with our 15' Hughes steerable C-band dish. My wife really loved getting the Canadian feed of her favorite soap a day ahead of the US feed! Her friends couldn't figure out how she knew so accurately what was going to happen next... :D

Nothing could beat C-Band. It was never a dull moment. So many interesting feeds.

I remember being able to see or at least hear the musical guests preform during the commercial breaks on the network feed of the Tonight and Late show on c band

Yes, you make a good point. The cheaper HDMI cables usually use the wart of the ferrite, and while people don't see it, I can understand people having concerns about the added weight pulling on the HDMI connection that can also pull on the board. Also, the can just be harder to work with in tight places, so convenience and not having the wart rip something else and doing damage is something to think about, and I've had situations when the HDMI connections on a device does not have enough space between HDMI connections such that the ferrtie core cables take up too much space between the HDMI connections and you are looking at what will be damaging connections. That is a legitimate concern about "cheaper" HDMI cables, depending upon the set up if the cables drop right at the connection with the heavy weight of the external ferrite warts, as well, on the cheapest HDMI cables.

So, absolutely, it may be worth the money for some to pay a higher price for HDMI cables with superior shielding to avoid the situations or problems that the extra weight and space the ferrite core wart can present. Of course, for the most common uses in homes of lengths around 6 feet, in most US homes, I just can't imagine the difference in PQ that either ferrite cores or extra shielding in place of the ferrite cores or even the "best" and expensive HDMI cables can provide. However, at much longer lengths, there certainly could be an appreciative difference, and if it is really long, well then you are looking powered cables with chip-sets and there is no getting around that and the higher price is simply is what it is if one wants to be able to see something at the other end of that cable.

I will say, that when I did some renovations and completely upgraded all the consumer electronics in several rooms of the house, I really preferred to get the more expensive HDMI cables with superior shielding that don't need/have the ferrite core warts. But a lot of dough was already budgeted and I would be purchasing A LOT of HDMI cables at ONE time, and the cost multiplied just did not make sense to me: it would cost way too much money. So I went with the cheaper cables with ferrite core warts. The perform very well. I never had a doubt about that, but I do admit that at times they can be a PITA if I have to re-arrange or mess about here and there because those ferrite cores just get in the way and in a few places, they are really weighing heavy on a few HDMI connections that it is a little disturbing. So, yes, if I had the money, I would have gladly paid for the lighter weight, more sleek HDMI cables for the convenience and peace of mind and even better look (to my eye), and they are far easier to handle, but not because I believed either one would perform any better in my most common 6 foot HDMI cable runs.

Sorry for the long post, but your point is a good one if someone prefers certain HDMI cables for other reasons.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

That's not really unusual. Cable companies like to the provide the box too. The phone company provided the phones in until the government forced them to allow third-party phones.

LOL. It depends if the person saw it during the years when they were actually still available which is 1968 to 1983 meaning the person could be 43-58 years old or they can even be a few years old if they learned to read and write at a young age and actually saw a telephone with that label somewhere recently just like even here in San Francisco, payphone still exist physically in public places but whether they can be used or not is a different issue. It still looks like this even today:

I opened my Radio Shack in Sept 1984 and right about that time they did the whole deregulation thing with the phone companies. I bought TONS of those phones that had been refurbished with a new outer shell. You could throw one of those out of a 3 story high window and it would still work.
That was an interesting time in history. I would have older customers come in and ask about phones.....they were terrified that they were going to get into trouble hooking up a second phone without the phone company knowing about it. One of the funniest episodes of WKRP was the one where Johnny thought the cops were showing up because they had an unregistered phone. I guess younger folks can't conceive of a time when you were limited to the number of phones you could have in your house....and limited to the length of the cord 🤣

That's one of those songs that hits a little too close to home for me. I like the song but just can't listen to it. It's kinda like that song "Daddy never was the Cadillac kind".....reminds me too much of my Grandfather who died Feb 18, 1995.

My OTA is not working anymore. This started after the latest update. I have the OTA dongle with a OTA antenna that I've been using for years. My hopper does not recognize the dongle anymore and when I go to the OTA setting, it has a screen that says to plug a dongle into the USB. I tried unplugging and plugging back, in the same usb port and other ports. The Hopper does not recognize it. Anyone have same issue?

Did you people having this issue contact Brittany yet? Shes trying to keep track of things and it would be good for you to contact her as maybe she can get this somewhere and get fixed.

Now while unofficial, I am hearing this issue wasn't caused by DISH's software team, but was caused by a chipset driver update that seemes to have hosed some older USB devices. If this is indeed the case I can see why DISH didn't know and why they are slow in fixing it as they need the chipset company to fix its drivers and release them to DISH so they can be pushed out to all.

DISH does not hate you guys nor do they want you to buy new USB dongles. I am rather sure they didn't even know this was an issue until they saw it posted.

Again contact Brittany if you are having this issue, so she has your info and hopefully she can do something for you to keep you happy. :)

Thanks, but until they do, can't Dish just revert to the old driver that worked? Then test the new driver when delivered,d before pushing it again.

But then what does an old CIO know! I've only reamed quite a few buttholes from my people that didn't do that! ;)

They can absolutely put the old driver back if they wanted. This is an embedded software environment in which they have total control. All they have to do if build a new version of firmware with the old OTA driver and test it of course. They just don't want to spend the resources doing so. If they are not going to continue supporting the single tuner adapter, then they have to say so.

Unless of course they didn't keep a copy of the old drivers and can no longer get it. Then there is always the their support for the product is EOL after a x amount of time so it will make the consumer have to buy the current product offering.

No updates but if you can get DISH Technical Operations to roll you back to H710 or earlier even though H708 would be best because it also eliminates another problem like in this comment, you will also no longer have the problem as long as you don't update manually or forced to any new version until the problem is fixed as the problem started in H711 and still exist in H712 and H713.

Installed an off-air antenna a couple days ago for a customer who had just cancelled his Dish service. He had a dual off-air adapter and gave it to me. Cool. I'll keep it on the truck....might come in handy. Got to admit I don't watch anything as far as live tv goes anymore. Even if we have severe weather, our local channels will have a live feed on Youtube.

In other news, it was announced that the software fix for the two tin cans and a string will not be forthcoming. A hardware fix is required. However, that fix will let you receive stations from a gazillion miles away.

Truck roll charges may apply. Two year commitment required.

DEATH TO NEXGEN!

17 years ago the US turned off analog OTA signals in favor of digital broadcasting. Now the push is ATSC 3 "Nextgen TV". But nobody seems to be able to agree on DRM implementation protocols. People don't want to hook their TV up to the internet in order to watch over the air TV. At least I don't. With all the data they collect about your viewing habits the box should be given away at no cost.

It's dead, they just don't know it yet. They killed it by forcing DRM on it, and that TOTALLY botched implementing it.

There is absolutely NO compelling reason for anybody to switch to ATSC3.0. They only want it as a total and complete money grab.
