"The merger will in fact harm consumers and the harm is significant in terms of the dollar amount," Shapiro testified.
Witness: US consumers will pay $571M more if AT&T-Time Warner merger is OK'd | WRAL TechWire
==============================================================
You'll be Paying for AT&T's Purchase of Time Warner Through Your Cable Bill

At the heart of Shapiro's math is the fact that the merger will give AT&T control over a number of popular cable networks owned by Time Warner, including CNN, HBO, TBS, and TNT. That would give AT&T a significant advantage, as the company could raise the rates for competing cable companies to carry the channels. Those increased costs would trickle down to consumers.

Gee, I got a bigger discount on my combined DIRECTV/AT&T bill plus streaming on the DIRECTV app doesn't count against my wireless data usage. Plus since the start of the TIme Warmer merger I've been getting HBO for free, so I'd say consumers are getting something.

We'll, It's being paid for some kind of way. Some DTV customers are not AT&T wireless customers. So, They are seeing yearly increases and I'm sure ATT/DIRECTV customers are also. Those discounts you are getting are only for a little while then your bill goes up. We all know about their todeo show. We didn't just get hear. I have been in DIRECTV'S cross hairs since 2007.

My discount for combined service isn't a promo rate, as long as I have both I get the discount. Will I get hit with the annual increase like everyone else, yes, but at least I have the discount. As for who's paying for it, I am with part of my Wired's bill. We all know they make a killing on wireless customers so they try to lock me in with those discounts and free HBO which I lose if I go somewhere else.

I am not arguing about discounts. What you are benefitting from is a monopoly's size, power and deep pockets. Your bill will go up. Enjoy what you are getting from them. It won't be forever. If you are AT&T's size they can do all that stuff you gloat about. Their grandfathered customers don't get those benefits unless they start over as customer. What we see is AT&T chiseling away at DIRECTV so you can get those benefits. I would open my eyes or get some info from their loyal customers. They know about independent DIRECTV versus AT&T Family DIRECTV. There is a difference between the two. What has not changed is these yearly increases. And we still can't figure out why we are paying for channels we don't get or don't know what Satellite dish we need for those special channels they claim they are not charging us for. Hell I have Sports Pack and don't even know what the 20 Sports channels are. How do you like that? Nevertheless, enjoy your deal with them. I ain't knocking you...

I've been a DIRECTV customer since 2004 and I've received those benefits, such as combined billing discounts and free HBO, son don't see where grandfathers customers aren't getting benefits. And the only chiseling away I've seen at DIRECTV is customer support, we continue to get new channels and DIRECTV planning has positioned themselves to be able to handle any expansion in 4K programming.

Then where are the SES 4K channels that other providers are adding? Not on DirecTV that's for sure. Didn't DirecTV recently cancel orders for future satellites and also didn't AT&T state that they intend to go IP only and do away with satellites altogether? Yes they did on both counts.

The only reason you're in denial about this merger is because you're hoping for free HBO for DirecTV subs. Just admit that and join the rest of us in seeing the fact that this merger would be terrible for everybody who is not an AT&T subscriber.

That is why I will be switching to Dish as soon as my D* contract is up or maybe even when the ETF becomes affordable. I haven't trusted at&t one bit since they started mentioning the possibility of a Satellite to IP transition and there is no way I am giving up my reliable tv delivery method. As for sports, I tried the MLB at Bat app this season so I'm covered and don't have to deal with Dish's subpart sports offerings.

Sat is here for a goo while, there are way too many people that cannot use IP.

I hope so, don't get me wrong DirecTV shines in terms of channel and sports selection but it seems that AT&T came in and ruined a great product.

Guys, alot of this is well into "Pit" territory. Please take those types of comments there and leave them out of this admittedly, very hard to discuss otherwise, thread.

AT&T is a horrible company and they're no better than Xfinity or other companies. I have them for cellular and also directv. Only reason I have them is because of a bogo promo that require me to get directv . Without all the discounts I'm currently getting, there's no way I'd pay $100 for TV. I'm locked into 2 years with them so if I don't get a deal to stay after 2 yrs I'll gladly leave .

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

I didn't start it as a political statement and have no interest in the political BS of this country. Everyone wants to make everything political nowadays. This was just my rant over the outrageous increase in my premiums and how unaffordable healthcare is becoming to the average person here.

There are no dues to be paid to be in the Pit. You just have to use the password which is clearly shown when you try to log in to it.

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

Tell Alexa verbally what to do.

What is the purpose of connecting Alexa and the H3?
I stand up from my chair with my glass in one hand and my plate in the other, when a story I really want to hear comes on the TV. So I say, "Alexa, pause DISH", and it waits for me to return from the kitchen, at which time I say, "Alexa, resume DISH".

Or maybe, when I return with a full glass in one hand and a new plate in the other, I realize I forgot to pause to hear this good story from its start. So I say, "Alexa, skip DISH backwards 3 minutes", and I still get to catch the whole story.

I use this every day. Or until I acquire a third hand.

I figured some of the guys would be looking here for an answer. You'll need to use this link

I'll mention what happened over there. I don't want to cause Scott any issues or put him in a bad spot.
