Has anyone here received a signal strength under 49% other than 0%? I do not think so. It amazes me because most of you who post a problem are so quick to blame the 811 without understanding how the 811 works!
If you see 49% reading on the signal strength meter it means that either you have to realing your antenna or the signal from the OTA station is not strong enough to lock-on to. Open up your 811 manuel and read. When you get a signal strength over 49% than you have enough signal strength to get a lock but sometimes that is not enough to maintain the lock.
The receiver can lock-on to the station but can not hold it if the signal strength is above 50% but under 60%. the 60% strength reading is the magic number with the 811. You have lock and the picture if the signal is constant above 60%. Below 60% you have loss of picture and/or sound. Hit 49% and you will not get anything. Between 0% and 49% you have a carrier but not enough signal strength for the 811 to do anything with.
That is how the 811 works. Different HD receivers report different signal strengths. Some start at 70% in order to maintain a lock and some do the same at 50%. The way that the 811 works does not mean that it is defective or has a software problem. That is how it is designed to work. Yea, Thanks Nicko23 for posting this trick! I can get all my digital locals except PBS which bounces around from 49% to 85% then back down to 49% with no lock. I just tried this trick 5 minutes ago and have a 85% lock on PBS! This is great now I can watch all the great shows PBS has to offer. So to anyone else on the fence about this, IT WORKS!! Thanks Again, Bill

Some stations actually transmit signals that are full of errors in the data stream. Some OTA receivers can deal with the errors and some cannot.
If a high quality clean signal is sent it has some headroom for degradation through multipath (signal reflections from buildings and mountains) and normal interference and even harmonics of other transmissions on its way to our antennas, it has some room to degrade and the OTA receiver can put the pieces back together (forward error correction) or FEC.
This is what separates OTA tuners from men and boys. The ability for the cpu and software to compensate for the errors.
An OTA tuner that does not perform well in one area will be wonderful in another. I have experienced this with a couple of installations.

You can order direct from starlink online or from an authorized retailer.
Not at all like the special equipment needed for a satellite install.

Yes, I fully agree. I can install it with my teeth, and both hands tied behind my back...but this installation is for a commercial user that will not do it themselves, and myself, Im overseas...
But it looks like that we managed to find someone who can drive there for the work.

It states the average amount they are under water is OVER $7,000. 
Personally, I tend to be the type that drives a vehicle for a lot of years....do my own oil changes and other fluid changes. Just replaced the spark plugs and a couple coils. Youtube is great for things like this.

This should hit a lot of folks with a dose of reality. I can only imagine how much more common this will get as AI progresses.
