With the 1st Quarter Report just released, Dish lost another 180,000, now at 4.84 Million.

Sling now at 1.79 million subscribers, down approximately 190,000.

For comparison, YouTube TV now has about double the subscribers of Dish and Sling combined.

I did a 2-year price-lock agreement with Dish about 2 weeks ago. So, it'll be interesting to see how the price increases affect that. I've been with Dish for 29 years. I thought it was less than that, but yep, since '97.

I'm 12 mos into a price lock, I'm paying $50/mo and not sure it's worth that! Will reevaluate in 12 mos but likely cancelling.

Hard to get streaming at that price. MyEntertainment.

I remember back when I cancelled my Dish service at home a few years ago....they guy looked at my acct and said he had never seen an account as old as mine...he was really shocked. Offered me all kinds of stuff to stay active but by that time I has stopped watching Fox News and most of the stuff we watched we could stream.

Looks like dish is Bankrupt. Filling tomorrow Tuesday June 30th

According to Google A.I.:

Why the bankruptcy Increases the chance for a new deal with TPG and DISH merging.

Clearing the Debt Roadblock: DISH entered court with a Restructuring Support Agreement (RSA) already backed by 88%of it's noteholders. This "prepackaged" status allows the company to use bankruptcy court to legally bind dissenting creditors and forcibly restructure approximately $10 billion in debt.

Creating a Clean Target: Dish plans to exit bankruptcy rapidly, targeting emergence by the end of Quarter 3 of 2026. A streamlined debt-reduced DISH pay-TV business makes for an incredibly attractive merger target for TPG and DIRECTV.

TPG's Solo positioning : TPG Capital is already moving forward with a separate deal to acquire ATT's remaining 70% stake in DIRECTV to assume 100% ownership. Once TPG fully controls DIRECTV, they will have total flexibility to make a clean, post-bankruptcy bid for DISH remaining 4.8 million satellite subscribers.
I read that nothing is to change for Dish subscribers, but to make sure, we won't have to get DirectTV equipment will we? It sucks compared to the Hopper 3. Hopper 3 beats youtubetv interface big time also.

Dish network will never merge with Directv. Dish tried buying Directv in early 2000 but George Bush adminstration blocked it. One time Directv had over 24 million customers now maybe 7 to 8 million. Dish had 15 million now less than 5 million. No one ordedring satellite TV.
Only seniors like me keeping it. Both will keep loosing customers. Echostar houston tracker and they made very good receiver back in the 80s and the best DBS receivers including hopper.

Dish could market this in their favor. With the cost of streaming services going up and they need to switch from app to app, with the advent of android OS and the hopper equipment, dish has taken away some of that pain by centralizing everything on one device, with one remote where you can still stream watch, live TV and record whatever you want, whenever you want and view all the content from anywhere with an Internet connection

Why do so many bring this up, yet ignore the fact, that Paid Live TV is doing the same?
and they need to switch from app to app
Who cares, when the majority of content on that all in one service is reruns, which are available for free on the Pluto TV type services.

I am glad to switch from app to app for new programming, along with the better video/sound quality.

For example, can you receive CBS shows in 4K on Dish ( or other services)….nope, but you can on Paramount+.

Not many care about the Hopper, if they did, Dish would not be under 5 million subscribers and still losing subs, as reported every quarter.

YTTV has over 12 Million subscribers and still growing, no hopper there.

streaming services You need high speed internet costly. Thursday night football i ordered it via Amazon prime i have 80 speed internet the picture locking up it sucks. streaming is like electric car not proven. i will stay with dish network still the best out there. Even dish anywhere app on my phone it looses signal when you are watching on my phone. Not as reliable as satellite tv.

I was checking in to youtube tv. Since youtube tv is one of the biggest tv provider. Looks like you need a smart TV. My TV is a Panasonic 42 inch plasma. Also .no way of channel surfing like we all loved doing on dish receiver. That sucks. You tube tv charges $10 for NFL redzone. Let see If Echostar dish will suvive or go under?

All you need is a streaming box such as Roku, Google TV streamer or ONN 4k box from Walmart connected to your TV.

Do people keep them till they die?

I cycle mine out every three years or so.

Someone gets a deal on a still REALLY good tv, I get a discount on a better one.

I'm not sure how long TVs would last now tbh, my last plasma I sold was at least a decade ago. Probably more.

Those however, I did love them. The tech simply passed them by.

I will test google tv, My question is can you channel surf youtube tv like dish VIP-211k receiver with google tv streamer? Dish lost more customers according to report today. The way it is going it will be zero customers i dont see too many satellite dishes on houses both dish and directv. But easy to operate both dish and directv. Thanks

Plasma was absolutely fantastic, I retired my LG last year (25 years old) when the control board died and couldn't find another. The OLED replacement is good and much bigger and has a bunch of HMDI ports (no more DVI converters)

But its true the blacks might not be quite as good but at least I don't need to crank up the air in that room anymore.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

How long can an AM station run their FM translator with the parent AM signal off of the air?
KAMA 750 in EL Paso, TX has been off of the air for over two weeks now. They continue to broadcast on the 92.7 translator and cite the AM 750 and FM K224FC frequencies near the top of the hour. (The station is owned by KBNA 97.5 and the FM translator is not listed on the FCC web site).
For a little background on this station, for over 20 years "Hit 104.3" originated here in El Paso but leased a transmitter in Juarez, Mexico. This has been a common arrangement in this area for many years. Evidently earlier this year they lost the lease for the Mexican facility and moved the operation ( with some minor programming changes) to long time Spanish broadcaster KAMA and it's relatively new FM translator.
Over the past couple of years I have tried to listen to KAMA's Sunday oldies show in English after it was discontinued on El Paso's only "Classic Hits" station. The audio on KAMA was always very distorted and the 250 watt FM translator is hard to tune in as it is sandwiched in between two 100K watt blowtorches on 92.3 and 93.1. The 750 AM signal seemed to improve a bit and at 10K watts I was able to listen to it half way to Carlsbad, NM on a recent trip. However, I doubt that very many of their listeners use the AM signal.
I have my doubts that this operation can survive which would be a shame as there are so few radio stations here that even announce in English. It does make for an interesting situation for this long time radio enthusiast.

The FCC lists K224FC as a translator for KVIV 1340, so there's a certain amount of funny business going on with an apparent rebranding.

KAMA's Internet stream is working just fine in the interim and probably offers better AQ than the broadcast outlets.

Thanks for looking that up Harshness. I had just seen no translators listed for KAMA. If the information for K224FC is still correct they only have 99 watts. No wonder it is so hard to tune in even on a digital car radio. I also do not believe the location coordinates given on the FCC site are correct as that takes me to an abandoned industrial site that is nothing but a large dirt field.
If they want to be an internet radio station that is just fine but they should not be taking up the publics airwaves using false information and an almost unusable signal.

Some just can't drag themselves into the 21st century, or they don't have access to streaming.

There's probably also an expectation coming from advertisers that they're getting out on all media.

I love a good hot dog every once in a while. I try to keep it simple and traditional though. True to my NY roots mustard and sauerkraut is a favorite. Onions in red sauce is another, although that's hard to find around here in NM. Even Chicago dogs with that neon green relish is a treat. But recently "gourmet" hot dogs seem to be the fad. I'm the kind of guy that will try just about anything. But here's the problem. There's too much of it. I used to grab a "dirty water dog" off a cart with a Coke in NYC and be on the move. You could eat one of those when you were walking no problem. These "gourmet" dogs have so much on them. And they are swimming in sauce that they squirt on them in a squiggly fashion. if you try to pick them up it makes a mess. Or worse, half of it winds up on your clothes or the ground. I want my hot dog to be portable. Not something I have to sit down and eat with a knife and fork. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. But in my humble opinion this is way overdone.

Nexstar's relationship with CBS brokedown in several markets, so on August 1st:
Albuquerque: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's KOAT, KRQE/13 is switching to FOX (FOX is currently on Nexstar's KRQE-D2)
Birmingham: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WVTM, WIAT/42 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Sinclair's WTTO/21)
Greenville SC: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WYFF, WSPA/7 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's WYCW/62)
Jackson MS: CBS moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WAPT, WJTV/12 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's WJTV-D2/13)
Minot-Bismarck: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Forum's KBMY, KXMB/12 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's non-carried KXMB-D2). In other part of market Minot assume CBS moves to Forum's KMCY and KXMC moves to CW
Rapid City: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Forum's KNBN, KCLO/15 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's KCLO-D2)

FOX NM is actually on RF 13.2 not RF 16 from Mr Tony.

Rf ch. 16 RMP ch. 41.1 belongs to KTFQ-DT UniMas Spanish TV Network.

As for KOAT-DT they may have to kick one diginet out to make room for CBS-HD on 7.2 or bitstarved on one or more diginets!🙄😛

You gotta keep college or NFL fans happy without any bitstarved pictures quality which is going to pretty hard on MPEG-2 encoders!😲

KOAT CBS is 1280x720, with a VBR as high as 11mbps.

So...DirecTV advertises the Choice package with 95+ bonus channels for Satellite customers. You don't want 90+ of the 95...

Excluding PPV, premium networks, infomercial, shopping, religion, and non-English programming, there are 7 channels on satellite that are not on streaming:
NFL Network, MavTV, FE TV, Free Speech, NASA, INSP, and Pursuit. I'm pretty sure a couple of those are public interest that they have to carry to meet an FCC quota on satellite.

I hope they get called out for this advertising because that is ridiculous. One big network, NFL, will probably get added to streaming when their next agreement comes up, and the rest are likely very low viewership.

What about streaming, what do you get extra with the Choice package that isn't on Satellite:
Two stations - one of which is an internet TV - Fox Weather, and Heros & Icons (a diginet). Nothing special here to look at either.

If they cleaned up a couple of their agreements, added a few public interest stations to streaming, they could probably have their lineups match. It's close now, if you take out all the garbage on satellite that they earn money on. If they can sell infomercials on satellite, why can't they on streaming, seems like a miss. A bigger miss, including those stations in the "bonus channels just for satellite customers." Pretty sad marketing right there.

1681344805401.png

Attached is a comparison sheet of satellite vs streaming for the three main packages if anyone is interested.

MOD EDIT: See Post #3 for an up to date list of what channels are available on sat but not on streaming/internet, see Post #21 for an up to date list of what's available in the app for streaming customers, but not for sat customers.

My OTA is not working anymore. This started after the latest update. I have the OTA dongle with a OTA antenna that I've been using for years. My hopper does not recognize the dongle anymore and when I go to the OTA setting, it has a screen that says to plug a dongle into the USB. I tried unplugging and plugging back, in the same usb port and other ports. The Hopper does not recognize it. Anyone have same issue?
