Here is an update to a very old thread. I have been missing only the 540-01 channel for a couple of years. Recently added the Houston local channels via the Dish Chat on the website.

The missing 540-01channel showed up after the local were addend. Any idea what fixed the problem?

I now have 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, and 07.

Nice watching the World Cup in 4K.

thx

540-01 is kind of the 4K version of your local Fox channel. I believe you needed to sub to local channels to receive it.
Foxbat
We subscribe to the Locals at our vacation home so I just used that account on the Fox One app on our AppleTV 4K boxes, so we've been watching the matches in 4K via that conduit.

But our home account does not include our Locals, so I'll have to check our Hopper 3 to see if we have any 540 channels.

I sub to the local channels, but i don't receive 540-01on my HWS. Is it only available on the Hopper 3 ? Thanks in advance.

Yes Hopper 3 only.

Yes Hopper 3 only.
As I posted above, I receive 540-1 but don't subscribe to my locals via Dish. I do have a Hopper 3.

If you look at my last post it was answering dennispap's question about his not seeing 540-01 on his HWS.

I looked last night, and sure enough, the All Star Game was showing up at 540-01 on our Hopper 3, even though we do not have our Locals through Dish, just OTA. This is different behavior than before, when I would have to subscribe to Locals or the Sports Package to get 540-xx channels on the Hopper.

I set a Recording for the England - Argentina match today at 3pm EDT on Channel 540-01. However, while watching the All-Star game last night, our Hopper 3 crashed twice and lost connection with our 4K Joey (MOCA loss) so there may be something flakey in our system after a decade of operation. The recording may turn into a garbled mess.

I checked and I did get a single three hour recording of the match, so I guess it's okay receiving the 4K signal, just not showing it Live.

Here we go again-

Comcast lost another 280,000 TV Subscribers, along with 167,000 internet customers.

Charter-

Video customers decreased by 21,000 in the second quarter and 172,000 for Internet.

The broadband losses are actually quite bad for both Comcast/Charter, since that is the more profitable part of their business.

dishdude
I wonder how much Starlink is impacting those internet customers, I know the 5G offerings definitely are.

Fiber also, Charter is/was really big here in Florida, Quantum (AT&T) and Frontier(Verizon) moved into their territory, has been really successful in getting customers to switch.

Maybe Cable companies should rethink their strategy to attract new customers and to keep them. The old plan of announcing new fees for things you never had before after you subscribe and hiking the price every 6 months to a year is not working. Or they could continue to circle down the drain till they go under. At this point I don't really care as long as there is competition that can provide you with their services at lower prices. :smug

A skinny bundle with minimal fees would probably get them a few more years, but the corporate conglomerates that own the networks won't allow it. They're going to milk every penny out of 3 FXs, 6 MTVs, 7 ESPNs...all playing content available on Pluto.

Wasn''t a radio optional on cars back in the 60s-70s?

When I bought my new 96 Geo Metro a stereo was optional. I declined as I worked at Radio Shack and had a 'big pimpin' stereo and speakers I could put in instead ;)

So you bought a xxxxbox that came with no radio as standard equipment( Geo - a collaboration, or should i say an abomimation between Chevy and Suzuki)and want to hold it up as a typical standard vehicle of the era?

Actually, I can't seem to add the locals back to my account to check right now - when I go to add it and I submit the changes, it shows that I have added 1802 local channels (the whole country) and nothing happens. Something must be wrong with their website. :)
This is what happens to me. I came back to DISH about two months ago and have the Top 200 without locals and of course am under a two year commitment. I thought it would be interesting to add locals, at least for a month (hopefully could drop them if disappointed). I am getting a signal of about 65 on both 110 and 119.
I have tried three times over the past week to add locals through the MY Dish web site (on the computer). I get a quote of how much the bill will go up and then hit "submit changes". I then see on the screen, "check out these sweet 1800 channels". I wish! Nothing ever happens. I have done a "update guide" and "reset receiver" through diagnostics/ tools and even unplugged the Hopper for half an hour.
I also think it would be standard practice to send an email when a customer makes a programming change, but I have received none. I guess I don't feel it is worth having to call or chat and am writing it off as "sour grapes" but am still curious as to what may be wrong.
Since I am under a contract, am I forbidden from making any programming changes, or woiuld I loose my "new customer" promotions if I were to add and then delete locals? It would all be useful information for anyone in such a situation.

Call the DISH number and talk to a CSR and ask them to add your locals. Fastest way is to ask for TECH department and tell them your issue and I am sure that they can add them and tell you when to expect them in your guide.

I had issues recently trying to make a programming change on the Dish website. I switched to the mobile app and it worked great - no issues.

What is the best price for the locals. Under contract with the 200 package. I went to add the locals. The price was $14.00 minus a $2.00 discount. I was just pricing but did not subscribe. My new contract is up 8/17. Has any done better upon contract renewal.
I don't have a problem using the module until the fall season starts. It's a battle between me and my wife. Guess who wins.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I agree with Keith, considering how S3 went, this was a far better start. Sure, some of the science was sketchy, but from a strictly entertainment angle, I'd give this episode 4 and 1/2 out of 5 stars. Interesting plot, some laughs, and a good ending. I'd say more, but I don't want spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet.
Foxbat
Yes, a much better start to the season than last. With a Whovian reference, too!😉

Loved this episode. Not only had time travel, but they were instrumental in the death of the dinosaur and an explosion that takes out the 5th planet that is now the asteroid belt and lead to the orbit of Mars moving further out away from the sun, sealing its fate as a dead planet in our time. So the Enterprise was always supposed to go back 65 million years. So much for the prime directive in this situation.

My pellet grill WiFi (2.4 & 5G) will only connect to my router by using guest mode. My router is a two-year old TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro 3 pack mesh. This is the first issue I've had with this router. Pellet grill company says it must be something in my router blocking the normal connection. No one else is having this issue. Does anyone have a clue what setting in my router could be blocking the signal to my router the normal way but yet the guest mode works?

That is what I am doing. WiFi works great in guest mode. Trust me, I am super happy it works now. Several phone calls with Recteq companies WiFi department troubleshooting this issue. I finally turned on the guest mode in my router and whammo it worked.

Is it possible that your 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi password is using characters that the pellet grill Wi-Fi doesn't support?

I don't think so. The grill just says it can't connect to router and the Recteq WiFi folks didn't mention any possible password issues.
rvvaquero
Wifi stuff can be so persnickety. For example, I have a tablet that I use only for viewing my outdoor cameras. Today, one of the cameras was not showing up. I diagnosed for about an hour, resetting the router, the tablet, and the camera, etc. I finally realized that for some reason the tablet had connected to the router at 2.4 ghz. It usually connects at 5 ghz., the preferred.

So, I reconnected it at 5 ghz and the troublesome camera showed up. I have no idea why. The camera itself is only capable of 2.4 ghz., not that it should matter.

I have a question. I am having jittering/stuttering across the entire TP spectrum. I'm seeing it at 4060 and 4100 and even higher. Is this a normal thing. I would have thought you would only see it on the lower frequencies closer to what was taken from Cband a few years back. This problem crept up about 3-4 months ago, and before i just throw money at the problem by investing in a filtered LNBF, i want to do a bit of checks and balance with you folk.

My stuttering appears as often as every 20-30 seconds and sometimes it doesn't happen but every 20 minutes or so. I seem to have solid locks on the signal. This is on a smaller 8' Solid Cband dish. I swapped out a different LNBF. Same result.

If the advice is to get a new filtered LNBF, would I be looking at the Titanium RED or BLUE band pass filter?

Are you less susceptible to interference the larger your dish? the only dish left that doesn't have a filter is my 12', and I have just run into a situation where there is a transponder i cannot pick up any more, but i can pick it up on my smaller 10' that has a filter. I went outside and checked fine-tuning and everything seems good. I re-peaked it, and i still cannot get the transponder with my 12'. But, im not having any break ups or jitters on any of the other transponders like i have experienced on my other smaller dishes with 5g interference.
Titanium
Not a lot to go on here, but....
The size of the dish can provide a narrower beamwidth, but it is no more or less susceptible to terrestrial interference. Terrestrial interference either enters the feedhorn directly from the sides or as a reflection off of the dish or other nearby surfaces. A deeper dish with better FD ratio is better at rejecting terrestrial interference. Could also be an issue with the scalar setting and rejection of adjacent satellite interference.

What is the transponder frequency, symbol rate and FEC? Does the SQ drop out randomly or never lock?
iBoston
Sorry for the delay.. Busy day yesterday. The signal never locks, except on one occasion, I left it on the service for hours, I came back and realized at some point a signal was momentary locked, because i had a partial image on the tv.

Not characteristic of 5G C- band interference. Do you have access to a spectrum analyzer?

No. I suppose i can try a spare lnbf. I have a few being i've swapped a few for the filtered one. This just happened less than a week ago. I had no issues with the signal before that, and like i said, i can swing my 10' over and pick up the transponder without issue. We haven't had any wind storms and i fine tuned it a bit and made no progress.
