Had a Dish Installer add a 625. I have a Super Dish with a DP34 switch. Both the 721 and 522 are connected to the switch and everything runs fine.

Installer needed to add the 625 upstars, he kept insisting on me taking out the 721 and just running the 625 TV 2 into the kids room. I said no I want all 3 boxes hooked up.

He added a a second DP34. He added the 625 to the initial switch and moved the 721 to new one he installed. Every thing looked good the 625 was activted and the 522 came on as normal. I made the mistake of not looking at the switch, I thought the 721 was on the initial switch (but he moved it to the new one). The 721 usually takes a while recover from a hard reset ( about 9 minutes sometimes).

The installer left and I went to check on the 721 and I saw it was still downloading guide date. I did a check switch on the 721 and it shows my 3 sats

119----/105/110
Green/N.C./N.C

I said uh oh and went to check his switch setup, that's when I saw that he moved the 721 to the new switch.

So I swaped the 721 with the 625 and the 522 and here is what the dish screen showed

119----/105/110
Green/XXXX/XXXX
Reception Failed (or something like that)

I called Dish and the installers office (which seems closed). Dish has rescheduled an appointment for Tuesday. The CSR apologized the whole time.

The new DP34 switch that was installed just has the 2 lines(going to the 721) and 3 lines coming from the the first switch.

Yeah I made of mistake of not checking the switch setup before he left, i had my parents do a pop in visit and I wasn't thinking straight.

So if you guys can help, thanks.

I have not yet seen confirmation that ALL power was removed from the first DP34.

Especially considering that it was hooked up improperly in the first place, that's GOTTA be done. Unplug all 3 receivers. Wait AT LEAST 5 minutes, then plug in the receiver that is attached to port 1 of the first switch. After that, plug in the others and see what happens.

If I'm right (50-50 chance), raise holy hell with the service center and E* themselves.

Your mistake was attemting to tel the tech how to do his job...quite frankly ,I owuld have diplomatically told you to allow the porfessionals to do their job and proceeded with the service call. troble shoots have a certain order....you should have let the tech find the problem in his own way..of course when I precall my service customers to help narrow down the problem. This allows me to have some famiarity with the situation..
Any further interference from the customer and I would have left too.....

Sorry but you are wrong.

This was the 4th tech for the same problem in the last 10 days.

I'm tired of lazy installers. Why did 4 techs in a row tell me just run TV 2 522 from the downstairs? Why, because he didn't want to drill a hole for the cable. The installer told me that out of his own mouth. Sorry you're going to have to run a cable and drill.

Am I in the wrong so far? On to tech number 4

So this was the point where I told him to check the switch downstairs. The 3rd tech was just here a day before and he checked the lines from the switch and it was fine. So I repeated everything the 3rd tech said and that's when he suggested again to run a 522 TV 2 upstairs. I had to say no, I want all the boxes in single mode and I want 3 boxes.

So from this point he told me about the low levels etc, and why didn't I call sooner and I responded because I was getting all my channels fine for 2 years before your dept screwed up this 625 installation.

So obviously the Tech didn't listen to a word I said. I told him when he came in for the first time that I was receiving all the channels fine on my 522 and 721 on the primary switch. He never bothered to check those receivers to see where the Sat levels were (every other tech did).

He said I he wanted to re aim the dish because I am not getting a good signal. I said sure go ahead, and that's when he left.

Now all this was done in casual chitchat, not it a yelling or nasty way. He kept telling me my that my Dish is pointed wrong and that's why I am not getting channels 175 and 177. I continued to ask him why do I get them on my 522 and 721? He responded by saying that I am NOT getting them because the signal was to low. Oh man I thought to myself.

I laughed and let him do his thing. Am I wrong? I asked him all these questions nicely and he responded nicely. It was close to 6PM and his boss kept harassing him on his Nextel, so maybe that's why he didn't want to do anything else but a re-aim.

Dish tech number 5 came (the same day at 5:30)

He re-aimed the Dish to no avail. He then swapped the switches with no luck. He suggested installing a new type 2 super dish. He said then we should swap receivers (which I did before I called for service tech # 2).

I asked him is he going to get over time for staying late, and he said no. So I went ahead and disconnected the 522 for him since I can move the wire faster (connected optical cables behind an entertainment center etc..).

He took the 522 upstairs and the same problem. He suggested install a type 2 type super dish or a Dish 1000. I asked him what is a type 2 Dish and what is difference and couldn't answer me. No big deal, I would come on this forum and ask.

I spoke to his boss and he said they would come out Wednesday morning at 8 AM. His boss wanted to speak to me to see if that is okay because they couldn't make it on Tuesday.

Am I still wrong? I even gave the tech a tip because he really checked everything that I asked for.

Tech number 6

It's 9AM and everyone is a no show. I called the Ashland Co. and Dish and someone came out in a half an hour.

So now Dish tech number 6 is here. Since Dish tech 5 already checked the switch I didn't bother asking number 6.

I took him upstairs to show him the 625 was not locking on channels 177 and 175. First thing he did was go downstairs to the 522 and see if the channels were working there (which they were).

He went and checked the switch again and changed the barrel connectors. He gave me his walkie-talkie as he went out to the dish and told me to read of the signal strength. We did that for about 15 minutes. 119 dropped from 74 to 91 during his testing. He tightened the barrel connectors leading to dish and viola all my channels came back on.

So it took 6 techs to do that.

Am I wrong?

So to recap it took 7 (yes 7, seven) 721 boxes from Dish and 8 tech visit from Dish to determine the 119 LNB on my Dish was overheating last summer.

And it took 6 techs to
Replace a defective 625
And tighten barrel connectors to get Bomerang back on my 625.

I've had bad luck with Dish lately when setting up my 625 install, I had to argue with a english CSR in Denver that my 721 isn't HD.
She just wouldn't believe me.

I had to call Dish during peak hours during the intial 625 install because for some reason they deactivated my 522 why they activated my 625.

If this happened to you, you would be pretty pissed off. But I was very cordial to all the Dish techs that came and didn't rant to them like am typing now.

It's all done

it took 6 dish techs but it was loose barrel connectors to the Dish.

I've learned that Dish installers come in 2 "flavors", competent and incompetent. My first install tech was "half-ass" and barely knew which way was up and my second tech was superb and fixed all of the first techs mistakes.

FLASHBACK: I got Dish when they first came out years ago. I installed my first Dish. I had it up for 6 years before I moved. I NEVER had a problem with it.

I hear you, what's funny is all the techs came from the same service center. You would think the GM over there would give a heads up to the techs to narrow down the problem.

They don't care... they're milkin' the cow. Buddying up with Elon to provide him an MVNO network will make their investors and shareholders salivate. All of their recent marketing efforts have failed, so this move makes a lot of sense.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Given that Tubi is one of the hottest FAST services out there, I don't expect it to go anywhere. Building up intolerance for ads takes a while, and as long as the advertisers are willing to foot the bill, why not?

Prime seems to have a problem passing the DV/HDR metadata to Roku and Apple devices, but no problem with their Fire devices.

Had a customer come in a couple weeks ago to pay her internet bill. She let me know in no uncertain terms that she did NOT appreciate me running the same ads over and over. I looked at her and waited for her to laugh and say she was just joking.......still waiting for that laugh.

There is one there too. I would think either is justifiable as they make both the device and provide a streaming program service.

I agree to a point. The transfer policy is creating parity, but only for the top 20-25 teams. The other 110+ teams in the FBS are just breeding grounds for the bigger schools which have more money and more recruiting appeal.

If a smaller school recruits, trains, and matures a quality player, they can't keep them past their sophomore year because the bigger schools snatch them up. Example: LSU didn't cultivate Sam Leavitt, they just harvested him from other schools. LSU is a top contender, in large part because of Leavitt. Michigan State and Arizona State.................are not. If either of those schools had been able to retain his services, who knows where they would be now.

A lot of upsets yesterday, but my LSU Tigers won.
Coach says afternoon game result of SEC "conspiracy". The rivalry game vs. Ala. will kick off in the afternoon at Baton Rouge rather than at night, which head coach Lane Kiffin says is intentional in order to neutralize fan craziness and noise, which is believed to help lead to wins for squads playing at home. "Obviously the SEC wanted to change this year from how it had been to give LSU less advantage, (considering) how well LSU plays at night and how intimidating it is to play here. So I guess when I look at it that way, I'm not surprised."

But he's come up with an ingenious solution. "Go to bed earlier Fri. night, then start your day earlier. Have breakfast earlier. Start drinking earlier. Whatever your routine is, just move it up."

Meantime ads have been running for a "Protect College Sports Act" moving through Congress.

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

Optimum, which bought up our previous cable company, Suddenlink (originally COX), replac ed all of their coax disdribution with Fiber several years ago. They ran new fiber links to the house, but installed RFOG (RF over glass) devices on the outside of the house, which makes the house coax system look like a cable system. They used DOCSIS modems and of course we had the same assymetric bandwidth of cable internet. When I called them a couple years ago, and said I had installed a connection to the local Fiber provideer, MetroNet, They panicked and offered me the 300 MBit "Fiber powered" cable service for $20 per month. They were bleeding customers. I cancelled my Metronet and went with the $20 deal for a year, even though I didn't like the old cable technology.

Then T-moble Fiber struck a deal with Metronet Fiber where T-mobile would take over the marketing, billing and customer relations for residential Customers. They offered a "Founders Deal" for 2 Gigabit service, symmetric speeds, for $70 per month for new customers. That included all taxes and fees and was guaranteed for 10 years. I couldn't resist. That deal is no longer offered, but I am set for 9 more years.

Now the successor to the old local telephone company, Brightspeed has also installed a modern Fiber system in the neighborhood, but won't be getting my business. But their Fiber technology is also superior to Optimums cable based system.

With Fiber competition, the cable companies are eventually doomed.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

After a strange reboot last night in the middle of viewing, this morning several more reboots and about a half an hour download.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

brittanygarden and Rick Durham

jsmit86 and naptime - If you are able to use H715, does the issue mentioned below still exist?

Often people who have organic vision or hearing activated as adults after never having had it cannot practically utilize it because their brains never developed the massive neural network needed to make sense of any of it.

Well, he sees in color, just differently. Can't he just enjoy that? My granny had anachromatic color blindness, meaning pretty much like a b&w tv
