Please Help Me,

We have a Dish Pro Twin LBNF. I am told that a "switch" is built into the head of the satellite so we do not need an independent switch to pick up both satellites. We have 2 301 receivers. We are using one and the other one is sitting in a closet because we only have one TV. We will buy another TV at some point but for now the one is all we need. We purchased satellite cable (it's gray in color) and connected the cable to the satellite dish and down into our room with the TV and connected the cable to the 301 receiver. We can get 119 but we cannot get 110.

Here is what it says when we do a check switch:

Installed Switch: DP-Twin

Input: 1 2
Satellite: Conn 119
Polarity: X All
Device: Twin Twin
Status: Warning - only one satellite connected

When we press Details it says:

Direct Connect to a DP-Twin
DP-Twin-1 119 Even, Odd

We do not know what to do. It has been this way for about 2 months now. I bought the satellite package at walmart a long time ago and it sat in my closet and then we finally decided to get it hooked up 2 months ago and all is well with the 119 but can't get 110. we read on here that you have to move it over a bit so one of us went on the roof and one stayed in waiting for the red bar to turn green meaning the signal was found but nothing. The signal picked up on the 119 but not on the 110.

Should we have two coaxial cables running from the Dish Pro Twin LNBF even though we are only using one receiver? Must you have two cable coming from the satellite even though you are only using one box?

Do we actually need an independent switch? I ask this because upon closer inspection of the satellite dish I see that there is fine print on one side that reads 119 and fine print on the other side of the dish that reads 110. So of those two coaxial cable inputs located on the dish and those two white circles above the coaxial inputs, is one side for a coaxial cable to pick up 110 and the other for 119 and if one coaxial is missing does that mean no 110? I thought it was a twin that had both 119 and 110 inside each?

I just don't know why we can't get 110 and would like to very much. I can't see it being a damaged 110 because everything came out of the box brand new but I guess maybe it is a possibility. I'm just thinking we are doing something wrong. We went on the roof and move the dish left to right and up and down and still no 110. I thought we could leave one of the coaxial inputs on the roof unattached because we figured it was for the other 301 receiver which we are not using.

If there is someone out there reading this that has some knowledge, I could certainly use your help. I have a mean boss and coming home to my satellite is my panacea. ;-)

If your elevation and skew was set properly, and you hit 119 with the 110 lnb, then your mast is not plumb. You can compensate on the elevation (it would need to go up, IIRC), but it would be a whole lot easier if that mast was plumb, the closer the better. You might want to take a look at the AZ/EL and make sure the Pivot Point is in the hole on that skew plate, too. That can rock your world, if its not right.

Also, could it be something as simple as bad software (since it has never been hooked up, and it is a couple years old)? Sometimes that software does some screwy stuff!

Maybe you should post your software version, too.

I've hit 129/119 before, and that blew my mind because, at that point in time, I didn't even know that there existed a 129.

Well went back up and on the first try (by moving the satellite 9 degrees) the signal on the television in the house read:

Input:....................1.......... 2
Satellite:..............119...... 110
Polarity:................All....... Odd
Device:...............Twin....... Twin

We jumped for joy and then when the screwdriver was used to tighten everything into place we got:

Input:....................1............. 2
Satellite:..............Conn...... Conn
Polarity:................X............. X
Device:...............Twin......... Twin

So we tried for 30 more minutes moving left to right, up and down yada yada doing check switch test in between each to get the 119 back into the 1 column but to no avail.

It is 12:14 a.m. so we just got back inside and we are getting ready for bed. Horrible night. The satellite is teasing us. ;-)

When you tightened the screws in it probably changed the way the twin was pointing at the dish (changed the focal point) although it should not have changed it enough if you was getting a good signal when you originally had a signal. You should have tried loosening the screws to see if the signal came back in. If it did I would have tried getting in a stronger signal before tightening the screws back. Did you have all of the bolts tightened down when you had the signal in before you tightened the screws up? This reminds me of when I was putting in SuperDishes and I had the signal in for 105, 110, and 119 really good and then when I tightened the bolts down the signal would drop greatly on 105 if not go out completely. I had to start listening to the pitch as I tightened the bolts down to see if it caused it to go down and I had to adjust the elevation the correctly way so that I could allow for the bolts to tighten to peak the signal. That was a big aggervation. I also had to start tightening up a certain bolt before another bolt to prevent it from doing that so much.

Seeing how it said 119 All 110 Odd tells me that you had some signal but not the strongest one possible as it was only getting the odd transponders from 110. It seems as if you did not have it peaked before you tightened the screws. You was very close to getting it. You should be able to get 110-120% on 110 and 119 unless you have partial blockage or your skew is off because your mast is not plumb on ALL sides. If the skew is not plumb on all sides you might be able to peak 119 but 110 and 129 will not come in well.

At least you got the satellite signal on the correct side of the twin lnbf and got a signal in tonight. You have to move that dish SLOWLY when trying to peak that signal. Listen to the pitch of the tone and move it slowly left and right until you hear it at the highest pitch. Once you get the highest possible signal moving it to the left and right tighten it down and do not worry if it went down as you tightened the bolt because you can adjust it on the elevation (up and down). Move it up and down until you get the highest pitch and then tighten the bolts down on both sides. Do another check switch and see what the result is.

What was the best signal strength that you found on 119 when you was tuning the signal in?

I've hit 129/119 before, and that blew my mind because, at that point in time, I didn't even know that there existed a 129.

If your elevation and skew is set propertly and you hit 119 with the 110 lnbf that does not mean that the mast/pole is not plumb. It just means your hitting the satellite with the wrong lnbf because the elevation is set wrong. He already corrected this when he hit 119 in column one and 110 in column two. He may run into this problem again though trying to find 110 again so he needs to keep the wire connected to the 119 side that is going to the receiver that he is trying to get the signal on to peak his dish.

The software for Dish500 has been there for a LONG time so that should have nothing to do with trying to point his dish for a Dish500. It would give problems with trying to get 129 in later on though if it is not listed in the satellites. Once he gets 119 in he could shut his receiver off for about 20-30 minutes and it will download the latest software update if it needs one.

You can find out what the software is by pressing the SYSTEM INFO button on your remote control located below the INFO button or press >MENU >6 >1 >3 on the remote control. Where it says software it should say P and three numbers to the right of it. If it says P2.09 P2.44 P2.46 P3.41 then it has the current software.

You can view the latest software versions at the following link: http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/customerCare/technical/software_versions/index.asp

He probably did not get 129 in the first column because the separation is 10 degrees on the oribital locations from 129 and 119 but 9 degrees with the twin that was designed for 110 and 119.
That 1 degree difference is not relevant at most latitudes. Here in the middle (39.5N, 105W) it's easy to tag 129/119 with a Twin.

And that 110-120% ain't gonna happen to often any more - except on spotbeams, and those should NEVER be used for peaking. Always use 11 & 12 on 110 & 119. Yes, use both - because as thad discovered, even without any cable issues, you CAN mis-aim enough to lose half of them.

They don't care... they're milkin' the cow. Buddying up with Elon to provide him an MVNO network will make their investors and shareholders salivate. All of their recent marketing efforts have failed, so this move makes a lot of sense.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Given that Tubi is one of the hottest FAST services out there, I don't expect it to go anywhere. Building up intolerance for ads takes a while, and as long as the advertisers are willing to foot the bill, why not?

Prime seems to have a problem passing the DV/HDR metadata to Roku and Apple devices, but no problem with their Fire devices.

Had a customer come in a couple weeks ago to pay her internet bill. She let me know in no uncertain terms that she did NOT appreciate me running the same ads over and over. I looked at her and waited for her to laugh and say she was just joking.......still waiting for that laugh.

There is one there too. I would think either is justifiable as they make both the device and provide a streaming program service.

I agree to a point. The transfer policy is creating parity, but only for the top 20-25 teams. The other 110+ teams in the FBS are just breeding grounds for the bigger schools which have more money and more recruiting appeal.

If a smaller school recruits, trains, and matures a quality player, they can't keep them past their sophomore year because the bigger schools snatch them up. Example: LSU didn't cultivate Sam Leavitt, they just harvested him from other schools. LSU is a top contender, in large part because of Leavitt. Michigan State and Arizona State.................are not. If either of those schools had been able to retain his services, who knows where they would be now.

A lot of upsets yesterday, but my LSU Tigers won.
Coach says afternoon game result of SEC "conspiracy". The rivalry game vs. Ala. will kick off in the afternoon at Baton Rouge rather than at night, which head coach Lane Kiffin says is intentional in order to neutralize fan craziness and noise, which is believed to help lead to wins for squads playing at home. "Obviously the SEC wanted to change this year from how it had been to give LSU less advantage, (considering) how well LSU plays at night and how intimidating it is to play here. So I guess when I look at it that way, I'm not surprised."

But he's come up with an ingenious solution. "Go to bed earlier Fri. night, then start your day earlier. Have breakfast earlier. Start drinking earlier. Whatever your routine is, just move it up."

Meantime ads have been running for a "Protect College Sports Act" moving through Congress.

Optimum, which bought up our previous cable company, Suddenlink (originally COX), replac ed all of their coax disdribution with Fiber several years ago. They ran new fiber links to the house, but installed RFOG (RF over glass) devices on the outside of the house, which makes the house coax system look like a cable system. They used DOCSIS modems and of course we had the same assymetric bandwidth of cable internet. When I called them a couple years ago, and said I had installed a connection to the local Fiber provideer, MetroNet, They panicked and offered me the 300 MBit "Fiber powered" cable service for $20 per month. They were bleeding customers. I cancelled my Metronet and went with the $20 deal for a year, even though I didn't like the old cable technology.

Then T-moble Fiber struck a deal with Metronet Fiber where T-mobile would take over the marketing, billing and customer relations for residential Customers. They offered a "Founders Deal" for 2 Gigabit service, symmetric speeds, for $70 per month for new customers. That included all taxes and fees and was guaranteed for 10 years. I couldn't resist. That deal is no longer offered, but I am set for 9 more years.

Now the successor to the old local telephone company, Brightspeed has also installed a modern Fiber system in the neighborhood, but won't be getting my business. But their Fiber technology is also superior to Optimums cable based system.

With Fiber competition, the cable companies are eventually doomed.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

After a strange reboot last night in the middle of viewing, this morning several more reboots and about a half an hour download.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

brittanygarden and Rick Durham

jsmit86 and naptime - If you are able to use H715, does the issue mentioned below still exist?
