The Buzz S2010F receiver is a rather new receiver on the market and a rather easy one to work with. The one thing I noticed right away (its written on the box) is it doesnt use the standard processor in it (the ST5518). This uses a NEC EMMA 2LL MPEG Chip-Sets in it. So we're working with something different than I normally use. I hooked up my motorized setup and turned it on. One it boot up I hit menu and went into the antenna setup. It defaulted to AMC4 so I went to IA6 (my true south). I was happy ot see "IntelSat America 6" instead of Telstar 6 as the name. This one is interesting as it has both a signal & quality meter with a bar and a separate spot with the "heartbeat" signal meter. This one is pretty neat. The menu is pretty self explanatory and you can just scroll down and change the parameters. This is nice for the newbie as I have worked with too many receivers with "hidden menus". I consider a hidden menu where you go to the LNB LO frequency and hit "OK" or a color button it there is a menu inside that has Diseqc, LO freq, 22K and the such. Everything you need is on one screen There are a lot of transponders stored but I decided to do a blind scan. There is an option for fast or detail and can switch polarity (all, H only or V only). I used the fast scan. It is a very fast scan, but the one drawback is it only picks up the strong transponders. The fast scan blew every other blind scan receiver I have out of the water...although it really only grabbing the strong transponders was a bummer. So I decided to do a detail scan. The detail does take longer but it picks up everything, including things my other receivers didn't pick up. It seems to lock the low signal channel where others just skip it. This has a very sensitive tuner.

I scanned in IA6 (via blind scan) and Nimiq1 (via satellite scan) and away we went. The onscreen when you press info gives you everything you need. Signal & quality bar, transponder info, and channel name. When you hit OK you get a pretty neat (and elaborate) screen. It has the channel list, in the corner is the current channel, below the channel list it tells you all the info on the channel (transponder, pids), signal & quality bar. This is pretty cool as you can see everything on one screen. I brought up the radio which has a background on it (I would have preferred a black screen). If there is an EPG it shows up. Since the only thing that really does is the audio channels, this is a moot point but I have a picture of it. This is if you press Info twice.

So I started doing some more scanning and playing. The detail scan is really good. I put it up against my other 3 blind scan receivers and it beat 2 of the three (Fortec & Pansat) and was neck and neck with the Coolsat. The Coolsat did win but the Buzz found 2 more feeds. One thing I really like is you press a button and the motor function pops up. Most of the receivers you have to go into the menu to move the motor (to nudge). Not this one. This is a major plus of the Buzz. I can fine tune the reception on the screen without having to go into the menu, select the satellite, find the transponder, then get into the motor menu, move it, then have to back out.

I went into the channel list and you can sort them by satellite, FTA or scrambled (this would work better if it was used for Globecast) or alphabetized. I sorted by alphabetized which was interesting. I wouldn't suggest this option as the motor would move a lot (if you have a fixed dish its irrelevant and would probably work better). You can also "find" a channel by typing in the name. You type in the first letter and it shows on the right hand side the channels (in whatever order you have them...either alphabetized or numerical) the channels that start with that letter. It also has the option for 4, 9 or 16 pictures on the screen. One is live, while the rest are still frames. It does loop through the screen though. There is a variable zoom feature that works with a still picture or a live. You can select a section of the screen and zoom in.

It does have a real time clock that does keep time regardless of satellite and has 16 timers to set. Since I did not have this set up to a motor I couldnt see if it would record on various satellites, but I assume it would. I went into the channel list and was able to easily edit channels, sort them out, move & delete very easily.

One of the features I didn't try out is the "Azan" feature. Apparently you can set it up to let you know when it is time to pray and will make an alarm, play music or show a video. I was able to set up my location and it told me the times to pray depending on my schedule.

Some of the features are

-Diseqc 1.2 & USALS
-22K option
-User friendly menus
-Various Languages for menu
-Very fast change speed
-8 favorite lists
-Channel sort by FTA, satellite, alphabetical order
-OSD
-Picture in Guide
-Background Graphic for radio programs
-Parental Lock
-40 step volume control
-Auto NTSC/PAL converter
-beep sound when you press a key
-very easy channel edit (move, change, rename, delete)
-very fast blind scan
-various scan options (transponder, satellite, PID, blind)
-AZAN
-universal remote
-S-Video/AV & SPDIF outputs.

All and all, this is a nice receiver and is good for the newbie or the veteran. It has the features a veteran would like and is easy enough for a newbie to operate.

The big plusses for me are
-easy to navigate menus. This has one of the nicest looking menus and it was easy to navigate through the options. Its pretty self put so anyone can figure it out.
-The scan I really like. When I am looking for a game or a news feed, I don't have time to dwadle waiting for it to scan though the satellite. This gives me two options and the detail option is very quick. I put this right up with a couple other boxes on speed and it is more accurate than other boxes.
-the easy to bring up motor option. This is a HUGE plus in my book as I am always trying to get the "optimum" signal

There are only a couple minor issues and both are for the blind scanning
-the fast scan I wish would pick up more. I scanned G10 originally and it missed a few transponders
-I don't know why but when you blind scan, it goes from 11.7MHZ to 13MHZ...Hopefully a software upgrade will make it stop at 12.2MHZ. Once it got past 12.2 it just scanned for nothing.

The Buzz does get me recommendation as a great unit for a 1st receiver or an additional one.

I'd like to thank Buzz Canada (www.buzzcanada.com) for letting me try out the Buzz receiver. If you want to order one, they have a order option at www.buzzretail.net

specs can be found here

The 3500 has AC-3 output...the Buzz does not.
The 3500 can also be run with a UHF remote and has component output

Stats8...I'm sorry I didnt get to the scan test yet between the Buzz and other receivers. Benn working on other projects. I'll have it up in the next couple days
M
Stats8

I just tried a comparison between the Buzz and the Coolsat 5000 on G4 C-Band (wanted to see the various signals on the nets)

The Coolsat blew it away

Coolsat scanned G4 C-Band in about 8 minutes
The Buzz took 6 1/2 minutes for H only and about 12 minutes for both polarities

Here's the kicker....Coolsat hit the ever so tough New Mexico religious channel (signal on my Pansat 1500 is between 25-30). Buzz just buzzed through it

I'll do a comparison tomorrow on IA8 & IA6 (I have a dish aimed at those 2 satellites)
S
Thanks for the information, that proves the Coolsat is still a pretty tough receiver to beat for true FTA.
It really makes a difference when you are trying to find a feed that can show up on any given frequency and symbol rate on a sat.
PopcornNMore
Thank you Iceberg. The Buzz seems like a nice receiver, but for AC-3 and UHF remote option I am going to buy the Pansat 3500SD.
M
no problem guys

Stats8-I'll scan IA6 & IA8 tongiht and see what happens. The Buzz has a "fast" scan and a "detail" scan. The fast one is fast but it doesnt hit anything (when I scanned G4 it found one channel). The detail is detailed but slower

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

remembers when ATT had stores and leased home phones
dishstaller
My Wife was recently in an antique store and saw a rotary desk phone and it had one of those sticker overlays that had a business listed with phone number under each number on the dial. She looked closer and it had my old Radio Shack listed under the 8...she bought it. Pretty cool keepsake. Back then I rented vhs movies as well so I had it listed as Radio Shack / Movie Gallery and then the phone number.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Week Six Balls and Goats and WTH is Going On in The NFL??

Browns. 1st place in the North. Yup. Believe it or not

Chiefs. Undefeated.

Titans. Won a game ! .... Colts I know, but still.

Saints. Won a game after a while.

Steelers. Having the same season they always have. They somehow find wins on their way to an unceremonial 1st round exit. Mike Tomlin is proud.

Cards. Won a game without scoring a single touchdown

Broncos. How they manage to win games with the dogshit offense they have should be studied.

Bears. Caleb's back and so is their mojo.

Goats

NFC East. For the 2nd straight week no team from this clown show of a division won a game. Eagles are cooked without Hurts. Who's not that good anyway. Commanders suck, Dallas is well ..... Dallas and the Giants have no QB.

Ravens. Lamar is out (as usual). But still. Losing to the Browns is never ok.

Chargers. Still can't win.

Rams. So much for the powerhouse team. They are 2 games under .500

Seattle. Lost to the offenseless Broncos.

Jerry made himself General Manager after he bought the team but make no mistake Jimmy engineered that trade. As well as a lot of others at the time.

Jimmy Johnson is a football guy. Jerry Jones is a marketer (hustler).

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?

Johnson inspires one, Jones the other.

I haven't posted in almost 17 years. Over the air, sat, offline, anything-but-the-internet is still one of my avid pursuits. Been playing with offline tv viewing and offline web browsing. I have great appreciations for this site still being here. It's so hard to find public communities that haven't sold out to social media company.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Now that I'm retired, obviously I have different health care insurance. I take 2 prescriptions. With my old insurance I didn't have to pay for either of them, now I do. It's not a huge amount but it led me to dig a little into the cost of prescription medications. I have been using Walgreens for the longest time. But what I found was that Walgreens price is 4.8 times more for one of my prescriptions and the other is 2.3 percent more compared to the lowest price pharmacy. If you pay for prescription medications you might want to have a look at trumprx and see if you can get a lower price.

I run them through several different providers to see who has the lowest cost

Usually it's Walmart or Sam's + GoodRx

Also...

You can also price them through the CareCard and WellRx apps.

Sometimes Amazon Pharmacy is cheapest.

TrumpRx?!?

I went on Medicare recently (not an "advantage" plan) and my prescriptions at HyVee were very low out of pocket. The clerk said she was putting them on "Good Rx".

I take 10mg Rosuvastatin (Crestor). I was paying $34 for a 90day supply at Walgreens last year when I was on Blue Cross. My Blue Cross premiums were going up to $1800 a month this year, so I switched to an Ambetter Bronze plan (I think that's a Cigna company) for $825 a month. I now have a $40 copay for doctors visits which is fine as I usually only see them once or twice a year, so a huge cost savings. My Rosuvastatin was going to go up to around $90 for a 90 day supply at Walgreens and even more at CVS or one of the local family pharmacies. Ordering online thru my insurance portal from Express Scripts it's $0.74 for a 90 day supply.

I'm fortunate and don't take any medications. A couple years ago I had to take some antibiotics and used the GoodRx app. Went to Walmart and the person behind the desk knew me and told me to just buy them outright....the GoodRx price was a LOT higher. She said they aren't supposed to tell customers when they see they are being screwed.
