I have a Dish-721 and would fine it very valuable to be able to create a time from work and have my dish record the event I programmed remotely.

Anyone know if dish has a "feature request"?

People can check their messages on their answering machine when they are away from home by pressing the star button then a code. I even seen a device where you could use your cordless phone as a remote control for controlling different things in your house or changing channels on a satellite/cable receiver. Perhaps if there was such a device that would emit the selections by phone to the receiver then it would be able to do what you want it to but you would need to know the conflicts and what is showing up on the screen. If one had a broadband connection to view the screen with a webcam and do the changes away from home on the phone then that would work.

It would be so trivially easy to do if friggin' E* would just give network access to the damn box. Freakin' $50 network boxes at WalMart like a WiFi access point have web servers builtin to control their configurations, view logs, and dang near anything else.
Heck - the Linux DVRs already have the server-side software available on-the-shelf for free. Just write some web pages. Denver has hundreds - maybe thousands - of unemployed programmers that would do it cheap. It ain't brain surgery. But nnooooooo, E* won't allow that to happen.
Stargazer
Is it possible to have a box connected to the receiver externally to allow this or would this have to built in to do as you have described? Perhaps it could still be done but in a little different way. How about those usb connectors where you can connect a wireless keyboard up to it? Perhaps someone could make a device where you could control it that way over the internet. Too bad the 510 does not have a usb port but one could make a hardware device that works like a remote to control it.

I understand there is a simple hack for DirecTivo boxes that allow it. I saw a DirecTVer post it in another thread.

I know my son has hacked his DirecTivo for ethernet connectivity to his broadband Internet connection.

Hmmm. Two tuners, network connectivity, and upgradable hard drives for $99 vs. $249 for the 721. I just can't figure out which is the better value, it's so close.
Stargazer
Perhaps if someone got a standalone Tivo/Replay/etc whichever ones I have seen that would allow you to do this. Has any standalone versions come out yet that would act as the two tuner DVR's do? At least with those you could upgrade the hard drives and I read that in the future they will be able to put the content onto an external hard drive.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Johnson built it, but without the Herschel Walker trade, it never happens.

Jerry made himself General Manager after he bought the team but make no mistake Jimmy engineered that trade. As well as a lot of others at the time.

Jimmy Johnson is a football guy. Jerry Jones is a marketer (hustler).

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?

Johnson inspires one, Jones the other.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

I'm sure I will watch at least the first episode but I am not optimistic.
Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

Where would this "dirt" come from? Dead skin and dandruff?

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Stay out of my office. I rarely have shoes or socks on in the office. My office and business is at home though :clapping

Say, I don't wear socks or shoes in my house either. But for a captain in Star Fleet it looks bad to be walking around the academy with no shoes. Gives off 1960 Hippie vibes.

For a whole generation of adults it was in the 1960s and 1970s.

If you ponied up for an iPhone Duo, keep it away from anything other than your soft, fleshy fingertips. No fingernails, no dust, sand, dirt, or other particulate matter. And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

Aka "mail" or "maille".

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Don't know if any of you have watched this series yet, it would be interesting to see if you feel this review was accurate. It was very humorous to listen to however.

If the review is like the article, oi! Eighteen paragraphs into the review and... all they've done is not really talk at all about the actual thing they are reviewing.

Halfway into the "written" review, I know more about how the writer "thinks" than I do about what they are writing about. I understand their politics, their self-overestimated understanding of film, their inability to be funny.

Takes about 22 paragraphs to get to one that starts "Anyway, the story kicks off...". Talk about Slop! 😂
