A little chasing the tail. It isn't much watched but they have said one of the things they need to do is be seen in HD to gain viewers. But with limited viewers and limited bandwidth getting it in HD has not been easy. But if it is in HD they might gain viewers, but with low viewership ..... you get the idea....

If people really cared about what was on the channel they wouldn't care if it was in SD or HD.
That's just silly!

To a point I agree. But two problems, there are alternatives to Al Jazeera particularly since they switched from the much more popular international version to the current one in the U.S. It's channels with programming only seen on it that can get people to watch in SD if compelling enough.
Second some SD is better than others. Watching EuroNews as an example in SD is no problem, picture is not bad.
If someone really likes AlJazeera they could just listen I suppose even if the picture is bad.

It's a perfectly good alternative when the other channels tend to settle on one story a day, usually a political horse race story, and then debate it or spin it to death. AJA at least covers multiple stories over the course of a broadcast in a way that goes beyond having two people sit at a desk reading boilerplate rhetoric over and over.

On top of that they have reporters out in the field covering stories that aren't being covered on the others and it's nice to have those reports in high definition as long as they're going to the trouble and expense to make them.
