Question to the experts -

I live in the Chicago area and currently have both the HD and VOOM packages,
two 811 receivers and have 2 DISH 500's up on the side of the house, 1 pointed at 61.5 and the other for 110 & 119(?).

I know I'll need to swap the 811's for the ViP 211 receivers to get all the new HD channels... my question is will I have to replace the 2 DISH 500's with one DISH 1000 to get all 25 HD channels, or will the 2 DISH 500's perform the same function as the one DISH 1000?

Thank you,
Dave

You will be fine with the 2 Dish 500s. Most of the Hd content on 61.5 is mirrored on 129. So for you, there is no need for a D1000 (119, 110, and 129).

Edit: Added "Most of the HD content". CBS is not on 129.

Is the CBS-HD also mirrored on 129?

The DISH1000s suck. Ya they work, but you'll get better signal quality pulling in on two dishes. The main loss is in 119 and 110. not so much 129, even though more signal can be gained off one dish pointed at 129. If that makes sense.

Randall - Thanks

That was my gut feeling I just wanted to make sure... so don't I need to pay for any installation which was the installation of the Dish 1000? just the swapping of the receivers...
