2021 Dish Prices

Great, so maybe both the Dish billing system is screwed up and the mydish page is wrong. :coco

If the explanation that CSR gave you is correct, then I could very well see Dish interpreting charlesrshell's bill as also being correct. There is already a $5 promotional discount on one H3, reducing that fee to $10. So, I could see Dish saying that is the "owned" one, and it is being billed correctly. Then, the leased one is the one showing up at the full $15.
I understand what you are saying. No telling. As soon as I see something on my DISH bill I will post back. The way I took it today with the Loyalty folks there is something wrong with the billing system for everyone with two Hopper 3s, one leased and one owned, not just an error on my bill. They tried to correct my bill and the billing system wouldn't let them so that is why they submitted a work ticket.

Wouldn't it a plus if we had some kind of representation from Dish itself to weigh in on this thread, I don't know, sort of a "Dish Support" type of function. Maybe a little team that played some kind of customer advocate role. That'd be good.

And they could be called DIRT. Dish Internet Response Team. That might cut into their bottom line and they’d have to replace them with drones. Oh wait, that did happen. Apologies for the sarcasm. They are still missed.

they’d have to replace them with drones.

Drones peacefully flying over the oval Dish-shaped terrain, seeking out issues with which they could try to assist, while providing a slumber-inducing whirring sound that would cause the peasants' issues to be soon given up on, thus keeping the peasants' expectations from getting above their raisin'.

Drones peacefully flying over the oval Dish-shaped terrain, seeking out issues with which they could try to assist...
Wait, that is my job. (Well, not really my job, but it is what I try to do every time I visit this forum.) Now if only we had someone with actual answers, who would do the same thing...

An example, the 722’s. They were $17 per extra receiver. However, there was not a $17 fee for the first one. That’s because the first receiver isn’t charged. The DVR service fee would remain the same, and in the case of the 722’s, was $6, $7 and then $10 and I believe eventually $12. If you had 2 receivers, it would have been $10(DVR service fee) and $17 for the second 722.
I noticed that in the mydish chart from day one, when selecting a 722 from the drop-down list. However, I figured that with all of the rounds of grandfathering for the DVR fee ($7, $10, or $15 depending on when you switched to the 722) it would be too complicated to list the DVR fee savings in the chart for purchased 722's. So, for simplicity, they left the DVR fee for the first one off of the chart, and only listed the additional 722 receiver fee there for comparison instead.

I also have 2 Hopper 3's. Mine was escalated as well but they did confirm that the system was wrong and should only be 5.00 for the second H3. The level 2 from loyalty seemed to indicate that it was a timing issue as the change was not due to take place until 1/14/21 but for whatever reason the systems have not updated yet and will receive a call back in the next few days. A credit was issued of $40.00 for any troubles :).

Looks like Dish change their mind, they are still charging full rate for their DVR, just activate a Hopper Duo & joey, hopper fee $10, joey $5, went and check a next account with HWS and 2 joeys, joeys fee adjusted but not hopper, doesn't look like an error, check a next account with 2 vip 222k, second receiver is $10, instead of $14

So it sounds EXACTLY as I have described multiple times now. This has been the working model for 20+ years.

Maybe not exactly. Maybe sometimes the working model changes, as evidenced by Dish putting out a new 2021 pricing page with real changes to how owned equipment is handled.

Since my bill came out on the 22nd, I finally felt like spending some time on the phone today about the 2021 charges for owned equipment, and thought a weekday would be best.

Level 1: didn't seem to have information about the new pricing.
Level 2 (loyalty): she used the words "you are correct", but was not able to adjust my bill due to me already having some courtesy credits on there, so she sent me to the next level.
Level 3 (Sr. Resolution Specialist): said that she was waiting for clarification about the difference between what their system currently said vs. what the Infocenter page has said for a month and a half or more. What she's doing is crediting my bill for $10 and setting up a follow-up phone call where she'll call me when she has more information. So I'll wait and see what happens.

I made the point that I took an action (bought an H3) based on the Infocenter page, but before doing so, I verified my understanding of it a few times with chat and over the phone, with varying stories. But one of the more recent conversations about me not seeing the $5 charge instead of the $15 charge was because my bill had not been generated yet. Once it was, I inquired a couple more times. Also, the button that is supposed to send a transcript of the chat failed to send me anything each time I used it. I guess that system function might be half-fast also.

My config: one owned H3, two owned 4KJs, one owned Wally. One 4KJ and the Wally are turned off and for occasional use.

I contacted dish . I own all of my equipment but the discount is only for your second hopper not your first. I was told they are the only one that doesn’t charge for your first receiver just a Dvr fee . I have been with dish over 20 years sounds like a scam.

That’s how it has been for 20 years.

That’s the point I kept mentioning. It doesn’t say anything about the DVr Servive fee however. The DVR service fee, and the Receiver service fee are two separate fees. It’s automatically waived on the first one.
The thing is, though, the message on the InfoCenter page clearly says:
"...We've also removed receiver fees on equipment you've purchased and own, if any; however, you will see a new, lower service fee for access on those TV's. ..."
That "you will see a new, lower service fee" is in no uncertain terms. So, even if the old fee was zero, Dish is now obligated to provide a monthly credit (so they are paying us to have an owned receiver on the account) so that the new service fee will be lower than what it was before this change.

20 years ago dvr was FREE

Yep, free for life. (Or at least, the lifespan of the 501 model.) Dish continued to provide a monthly credit to offset the DVR fee (once Dish finally added such a fee) to any account that had an active 501 on a certain date, until the point when 501's would no longer work as a satellite receiver at all. (They stopped working due to the QPSK to 8PSK conversion.) That monthly credit still applied even long after the customer (such as myself) upgraded to a newer DVR model.

The receiver service and the DVR service are not the same service. Does it say anywhere on there anything about reducing the DVR service fee(not to be confused with a receiver service fee).

Does it say anywhere on there that the DVR service and the receiver service are not the same service? If it's not clear, tie goes to the runner.

Dish is a 16 billion dollar market cap company. Do you think that they might have been able to run a pricing change web page to which they
refer subscribers for "more information" past their corporate legal team to make sure it made sense and was defensible?

Here are a couple of line items from my December bill, before the price change:

12/20/20 - 01/19/21 Equipment
Hopper DVR Service 15.00
Joey Receiver 7.00
Joey Receiver 7.00

Here are the relevant line items from my January 22 bill:

01/20/21 - 02/19/21 Equipment
Hopper DVR Service 15.00

01/20/21 - 02/19/21 Add-Ons
Access For Add'l TV 5.00

The word "service" appears exactly one time on each bill, before and after the price change, and it refers to the Hopper 3. So, a reasonable person would conclude that a pricing change web page that refers to "Hopper 3" and the word "service" and "$15.00" would be referring to the only service fee referenced on either bill which is the Hopper service.

Take care.

The receiver service and the DVR service are not the same service. Does it say anywhere on there anything about reducing the DVR service fee(not to be confused with a receiver service fee).
The other thing you forgot is that Dish is charging a receiver service fee for the first receiver. It is just that this fee is not broken out on the bill as a separate line item. Also, unlike all of the other fees we have been discussing, this first receiver fee is specifically listed as a rental fee, which is exactly the type of fee that Dish is now not allowed to charge on purchased receivers. From the fine print on the back of any Dish bill:
"An equipment rental fee of $9 per month for the first receiver may be included in your base package price. This rental fee may be subject to tax in your State."

So, Dish is now obligated to credit back this $9 fee (or at least replace it with a new, lower fee) if the first receiver on the account happens to be purchased. Also, in my earlier post which you just quoted, I was not referring to the DVR service fee. My point was that even if the first receiver fee was zero (as you incorrectly claimed when you said it was waived) then Dish, by their own statement, is still obligated to lower that fee. Of course, the only way they could lower such a fee is to give us a monthly bill credit for having a purchased receiver.
