My parents are thinking of upgrading to HD. They have never rented a pay-per-view and currently don't have a phone line hooked up to their 301. Does a 211 require a phone line to be hooked up for any reason? Thank you for your comments. Mike

You need to hook up to a phone line or to the internet to avoid the no phone line fee.:(

you only have to hook up a phone line to dual tune receivers - a 211 is a single receiver. You would not be charged the $5.00 fee.

On the 211 you need the phone line to access information inside Customer Support on channel 100.

For ordering PPVs you need either the phone line or the ethernet Internet connection. Also, Dish uses the Internet connection to monitor the service health of your system and signal levels or STB (Set Top Box) Health Lite as it is called inside the Details in System Info on the new firmware that's currently on trials.
