22 Congressmen Hate Christmas

Maybe those 22 congressmen should be given medals for being courageous and intelligent enough to recognize that the "defense of Christmas" legislation was just a pathetic, hypocritical and egregious example of right-wing pandering to the ignorance, stupidity and religious intolerance of vast numbers of people in this country.

Republicans are just so eager to make themselves look like they are standing up for the "family" and for "traditional values". The only "traditional values" they have any experience with are lying, bigotry and hate-mongering. And millions of bone-headed Americans fall for their claptrap every time. Suckers.

In case anyone didn't get the memo, this country has changed a lot in the past 20 years. We are far more multi-faith and multi-cultural than ever. It makes perfect sense to use "Happy Holidays" as a seasonal greeting because it expresses good wishes to everyone no matter what their religious affiliation/non-affiliation or ethnicity. And just what the hell is wrong with that?

Back in the day, a person's faith used to be a much more private affair. There was no need to inflict your own personal choice of religious delusion on anyone. Now, a lot of people feel they have to proclaim loudly and constantly what good Christians they are. As I remember my Catholic catechism, Jesus condemned the Scribes and Pharisees for always talking about how pious and devout they were.
Fact is, you can be a religious person without blathering on and on about it incessantly; your actions should do all the talking for you.

This whole "War on Christmas" tempest-in-a-toilet is just another example of narrow-minded fundamentalist bigots trying to force their agenda on the world and separate everyone into "us-versus-them" categories, which is one of the most un-Christian things you can do. And Christmas lost a lot of its meaning anyway years ago due to the tsunami of commercialism which starts well before Halloween.

Oh, I nearly forgot: Happy Holidays everyone! See, that wasn't so bad, was it?

And yes, I am the Antichrist. Thank you for noticing.

Edited because I really do know how to spell "tsunami".

The War against Christmas is the biggest bunch of hooey i have ever heard of. No one is against Christmas. It is all a silly attempt by the right to come up with a wedge issue and raise money. How naive can you be top swallow this one.

Sorry, Chief - it really is a war, at least in some places.

Like Denver (where that idiot Diana D. is from). They've had some of the best Christmas displays and parades for decades, and then certain @$$#oles decided it violated the separation of church and state. The arguments and lawsuits are still in progress. :(

P.S. I'm not even a Christian, and "I" say it's just fine!
