522 DVD Remote Control Programming Problems

I recently decided to try and condense all of my electronics onto the one 522 Universal Remote, but ran into some problems when programming the dvd player. It seems that all of the buttons work except for the arrow and pause buttons. On closer inspection of the remote, I found that the VCR button, which normally flashes when I press a button such as play wasn't flashing when I was pressing the arrow or pause buttons. I called up dish network and they couldn't seem to give me an answer. Doesn't dish network realize that people watch DVDs too? Anyway, any info would be great.
