i wonder if Ion and Dish are in dispute or Ion is phasing out the National feed for budget cut reasons.

It is what Dish Network has assigned as the type of channel.
For example, type: [9a] is MPEG2 SD, [a4] is MPEG4 HD, [a8] is MPEG4 SD ...

I am not sure what [bf] means ...

So I have to look at the data, see what other channels are of the same type, on the same transponder and make an educated guess.

Right now only a few VOD channels have that type so I will most likely map it to VOD.

Maybe [BF] means Background Function as those channels are not available for viewing and are special downloads that happen in the background and are stored to your Hopper. This way you want to watch an on demand movie you can watch it when you want because its stored on your Hoppers hard drive already.

I don't know its just a guess.

I have talked to some at the uplink center and they don't know what the descriptors mean either. On their screens they don't see [9a] [a4] etc... they click a button saying this channel is MPEG4 HD and they are done.
