Hello all,
I'm new at all of this and don't have a system up and running yet.
I have a 1000.2, a 211 and a 322. Would there be an advantage to aiming another dish at 61.5? What channels would be on 61.5 that aren't on 129?

Depends on location.. there's the fish channel (aka demo channel) as well as some regional HD channels.. I think there's a freebie channel or two .. but not much else thats not duplicated at 129.. as far as I know..

The HD demo channel and a few PI channels. Other than that, the rest are International channels that would need to be subscribed to

Oh yeah, I complete forgot about them.. I believe I read somewhere 61.5 is pretty closely mirrored at 148 or somewhere out there.. I don't think I could get 148 from here to verify..

Your HD LIL channels could be on the 61.5 bird depending on your location and if those channels are uplinked/available. This chart can help you find if your HD LIL's are available and on what satellite: http://ekb.dbstalk.com/hdlocal.htm

This is just great. What is wrong with the West Palm Beach HD Channels? Does anyone knows anything about this? Why can D* have them and E* doesn't? I would like to know since E* can't give me straight answer.

I think the reason is the same as why E* has other HD channels that DirecTV doens't have.
-----------

In answer to the first quesation, 61.5 has "Fish on Demand" channel (HD Demo Channel), Classic Arts Showcase, Pentagon Channel, KBS World, Sky Angel (30-some-od channels) and three additional uninteresting public interest channels. It also has TV Japan which is a subscription channel but the news programs are in the clear and available to all.

See ya

Thanks for your input but it doesn't make me feel any better. Not knowing when isthe hardest thing to deal with. I do not want to leave dish for $$ reasons. I'm under contract and intend to fulfill my commitment. I just wish I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Welcome to the OP...!

Re: D* local HD channels vs. E*'s, it's clear that D* is out in front of E* in that respect. If HD locals are important to you and available from D* but not E*, then it seems that your choice of DBS service is clear. Don't forget the possible OTA option that in most markets is superior in terms of PQ to either sat. provider...

In Florida a simple coat hanger will pick up 68 Digital channels OTA. :) Really. Nothing, and I mean nothing will do a better job at local channel PQ than an antenna. A simple rabbit ears will probably get you all your locals in HD. If you have a 622 or 211 the locals are integrated right through the receiver.

Actually that is not a bad guess. I pickup 44 total (HD & SD) however I'm using a directional antenna from Radio Shack. It sounds good right....well it all depends on the weather. I live just south of West Palm Beach and mean just and the reception gets pretty crappy when the wind blows or when it rains. I have better luck getting the Miami Locals 40 miles away. Again the problem is the weather.

Weather should not be that much of a factor for OTA reception. If your signal is marginal, get a pre-amplifier, maybe a Winegard HDP-269, designed for urban applications and resistant to overload.
