Just received a replacement 625 and problem still exists. What is happening is that the 625 is not detecting dial tone and won't dial out. Both units have same symptoms so there must be something wrong locally. Phones plugged into same outlet work fine. Have tried several different DSL filters all with same results. Have tried different phone line with same results. Strange thing is that when I go off hook with any phone in the house so there is a dial tone on the line, the 625 dials out just fine. House grounds look a little shakey but other than that all looks normal. Any installers out there have any idea what might be wrong? Thanks.

Try reversing the leads on the phone jack, and make sure your preferences are set to pulse.

try the pulse thing first. much of the time these two shouldnt matter, but it can make a difference.

my 522 frequently nags me to connect phone line, but when I check it says no dial outs scheduled and passes the ophone line test.

any chance your house is wired with FLAT cable? That can cause all sorts of trouble with big line losses.

as a final test try plugging your box DIRECTLY into the interface on your house, with and without the dsl filter, then see if it passes phone line test.

theres a slight chance its your dsl providers trouble, to rule that out take your box to a friend, and try phone line test there.

you can see from my comments, I have troubleshooted all sorts of wierd phone problems.

myself I prefer the NID DSL filter splitter installed where the line enters the home, it elminates the need of filters on the individual phones, and boosts dsl speed:)

please let me know if you find the problem. best of luck, it can be a bear.

oh yeah look around your home, when the phone company installed the interface on the outside of your home they should of removed the interior grounding block. sometimes they didnt bother, or couldnt get inside.

the old grounding blocks dont really like dsl and cause all sorts of wierd issues.

Thank you very much for your troubleshooting suggestions. I'll get looking into all of them and see what I can come up with. House is only 5 years old but of course that doesn't mean something wasn't installed correctly.

Seen it before a few times, no idea as to what causes the issue but each has been on a home with dsl and most of what Bob has offered as idea's was tried and didnt work.

Well that's not good news. Was traveling all day today so no time to do any further troubleshooting. I'll work on it this weekend and should I find the problem will report what it was. If I can't I'm hoping Dish will just let me dial in once a week manually. We love the 625 other than this one glitch.

I'd have to wonder if its not a bad bean job somewhere in the home or maybe a faulty nid, possibly a jack that isnt wired up right or a thread making contact with another for maybe a second line that isnt in use?

When I got my 625, the Caller ID would work off and on. I traced it to a bad splitter on the phone cable. I had a splitter so I could hook up the receiver and a phone extension off the same line. I moved the extension and removed the splitter and no more problems.

Just as an update, today I bypassed all house wiring and plugged directly into the interface box on the outside of the house. Tested with and without a DSL filter inline with same results - no 625 dialout - line failure. I'm going to give SBC a call and see what they can do if anything.

Thanks

Just an update, I never was able to get my replacement 625 or its replacement to detect my modem. I ended up talking to a supervise who told me that there has been problems with some phone lines with dsl on them and the receivers modem.
To get my updates I do them manually once a month by lifting my hand set get a dial tone select dial out then hang up and it works. I don't under stand why caller id works.
I wish dish would put out a software update to fix this, its annoying to keep getting the error message.
But I guess that really is a minor problem and should just be happy that's the only problem I have.
