722-->Onkyo-->Bravia == No Audio

Dish installer here. Saturday I did an install where the customer had an Onkyo receiver with HDMI switching. We put the 722's HDMI into the Sat/Cable port and the Onkyo's HDMI out to the flatscreen. His surround-sound had no audio.

Was this a case of the famous HDMI repeater breakage? Isn't HDMI supposed to carry surround-sound, or are we supposed to use optical?

Not sure if ths is the problem but on the Onkyo 605 you have to go to the menu, go to hardware and make sure under HDMI the audio is turned off. If it is on there is no audio output.

Also, not all receivers can accept audio over HDMI. What model Onkyo receiver is this? Less expensive models will not accept audio over HDMI. For example, the Onkyo 605 will, but the 505 will not...
