811 with no service

Ok, so this may be an old questions, but... Can I use an 811 without Dish Network service just for OTA. I was thinking of picking one up off of e-bay since I am not going to pay Dish $400 for one, but I was not sure if I could activate it. At least this way I could use it for something. Thanks...

You must have a dish aimed at 110 or 119 to get the OTA to work on the 811. It will not work as a stand alone. It is not necessary to have subscribed service just a lock on the satellite.

I can handle that easy enough... Thanks for the info. I already have a 522 setup, so I will get a switch and pull a feed out. I appreciate the quick response....
