They did.

Maybe they are training a new guy on how to make the uplink tables and are using the 148 satellite as his training grounds. :D

Does anyone else find it interesting that they keep juggling around the Distant Network channels? They move from bird to bird but are never available. There must be some grand plan in the works.

Grand plan...lol

What Scott said seems more probable.

Since I receive the DNS channels that are "never available", just what are you trying to say?

Those channels arent the same channels that DIsh has for distants. These have never been available

Ditto. I would love to have access to (and willing to pay a reasonable fee for) distant HD network channels from other markets. Sometimes my local affiliates rearrange schedules, screw up the audio and do other dumb things. Plus, I might want to check out local news in other markets like LA or NYC. Unfortunately, the government prohibits this behavior, which is so 20th century. There must be some rational reason why Dish is doing this. But it escapes me.

As a DNS user, I would like to have the NY feeds in HD but it isn't going to happen. The FCC had enough battles with DNS as it is now. Selective Out of Network reception isn't going to happen until the Major Networks drop using advertizing as the business model and I don't see that happening in this decade.

It's not Dish but the law. Back in the early days of the big dish, There were 3 packages of distant's, east coast, west coast and the Denver 5. Then a law was passed to prohibit new subscribers to them. This was pushed through to protect the advertising revenue of local stations (I think). If you switched your programmer, you had to be able to provide a bill showing that you had been subscribing to a distant. I was subscribed to the Denver package.

It seems like one sentence does not read the previous sentence "government prohibits this" followed by "There must be some rational reason why Dish". Perhaps Dish is doing this because the government prohibits it ? Of course, the government prohibits it because the broadcaster lobby asks them to prohibit it.

By the way, in the 21st Century, you can get any local news (LA, SF, NY, etc.) online at the TV stations' web site.
