Oh gee, it only took dish how long to finally get two western arc public info channels PNTG and ARTS up on 129 after 148 was removed from service in July.

cool that they moved 2 of the PI channels that were on 148 (until that sat blew up) over to 129

Lots of folks were wanting Pentagon on 129 :)

They dont need to carry them at 129 as that license does not have Public Interest rules on it. Same goes for Eastern Arc (except 61.5)

you mean 148 right?

No, I've seen a few posts before where people had a Dish 500 (110/119) w/ wing setup for 61.5, then they were switched over to a Dish 1000 and ended up putting the 61.5 back up again since they lost those PI channels in 61.5.

But that also stands true for the people that had 148.

Way out here in the Pacific Northwest I had a dish installed for 148 so that I could see ARTS. Now I have a dish that points that way, but no satellite. I'm happy they chose to add it to 129 since I don't think I would be able to receive 61.5 reliably here.

doubtful as dtv wont have any new hd til around march 2010
I would not surprise me to see them add some new HD in January once the NFL season is over.

They are so hurting for bandwidth now that when the Sunday Ticket is on they need take away the MLB GameMix channel from the MLB Extra Innings package just so they can show the NFL.

I would say that alot is riding on the next sat. lanch for Direct then. If something were to fail with that lanch it would be a MAJOR set back.

Whats going to hurt DirecTV is when Dish flips all the SD channels on the Western Arc to 8PSK and almost doubles its bandwidth without launching new satellites.

That is going to hurt DirecTV greatly.

Not necessarily double... consider it about a 25% gain, but combined with all those transponders and spotbeams. That's a big gain!

From what I am hearing the way it is going to work is areas will have its locals converted to 8PSK and those customers who need 8PSK equipment will get upgraded.

Its almost the same way they did the smart card swap, where one tier of programming changed first and then trickled down.
