A new use for your slingbox and smartphone

If you use a slingbox and have a smartphone, you can put sling mobile on it and watch TV. OK, no news flash there. However, I discovered that it also works very well if you need to tweak your dish for signal strengths. You can just put it on the point dish screen and see what your changes do to the signal strength live while you're at the dish. A big time saver, and works better than using my sons with two way radios.

Also using the slingbox, you could set the dvr while your at work :up

Why stop at setting it? Why not watch it too?

Works good for pointing OTA antennas too.

Good idea. Hadn't thought of that.

Of course I sold my WinMo phone a couple of months ago to get an iphone so I'm counting the days until Sling releases their iphone version.

I've used this method to tweak my FTA dish.

Doing this, you have to take in account that the phone is buffering the stream. So what you see/hear can be delayed 5-20 seconds.

If you're using Wifi, the delay shouldn't be too bad. Over 3G the delay could suck. Still, better than hauling a TV around or relying on your 8 year old kid.
