ABC,Scripps to Replace Live Well with LAFF

The TV stations owned by ABC and E.W. Scripps Co. plan to carry a new multicast comedy network being launched by Katz Broadcasting on April 15.

The new multicast network, called LAFF, already claims coverage of 35% of the country.

The ABC stations plan to continue to air the Live Well multicast network. ABC said it would stop producing new episodes of Live Well programming and will no longer syndicate the network to other station groups, such as Scripps.

ABC said that until LAFF launches in April, its stations will carry Live Well on both its D2 and D3 digital signals. When LAFF launches, it will air on the stations D3 channel. Live Well will remain on the D2 channels.

The ABC Owned Television Stations will carry LAFF in New York (WABC-TV), Los Angeles (KABC-TV), Chicago (WLS-TV), Philadelphia (WPVI-TV), San Francisco (KGO-TV), Houston (KTRK-TV), Raleigh (WTVD-TV) and Fresno (KFSN-TV).

E.W. Scripps Co. will launch LAFF on its stations in Detroit (WXYZ-TV), Phoenix (KNXV-TV), Tampa (WFTS-TV), Denver (KMGH-TV), Cleveland (WEWS-TV), Indianapolis (WRTV-TV), Baltimore (WMAR-TV), San Diego (KGTV-TV), Kansas City (KSHB-TV), Cincinnati (WCPO-TV), West Palm Beach (WPTV-TV), Buffalo (WKBW-TV) and Tulsa (KJRH-TV).
 
I got the press release. I then got a follow-on e-mail from ABC indicating that the O&Os will be putting Laff on x.3 while keeping Live Well on x.2. The website is laff.com and is one of those irritating designs they used for Grit and Escape before they launched.

Darn, I was hoping 7-3 would be gone as the HD PQ on my ABC is lousy. On the other hand, this could be a sub-channel I may be interested in.

Laff lands 5 sitcoms

LAFF, the first network devoted to full-time comedy, is building its lineup of funny stuff, landing the rights to air five contemporary sitcoms when it lauches April 15.

In an announcement today, the Katz Broadcasting-owned network said it has acquired the rights to The Drew Carey Show and Night Court from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution; Ellen and Empty Nest from Disney/ABC; and Grace Under Fire from Carsey-Werner Productions.
 
Cox stations adding it too

Cox Media Group stations in seven markets will add new comedy-themed diginet, Laff, when it launches on April 15th. The Cox stations are WSB 2.3 Atlanta, WFXT 25.3 Boston, KIRO 7.3 Seattle, WFTV 9.3 Orlando, WPXI 11.3 Pittsburgh, WSOC 9.2 Charlotte, and WHIO 7.3 Dayton, OH.

We have AccuWeather on 9.2 at the moment, so it looks like they're going to replace it with LAFF. Hopefully Katz won't stretch 4:3 content into 16:9, as were doing on Grit & Escape. Katz recently made a change, so more 4:3 shows/movies are in 4:3 now.
 
OH can't wait I haven't seen Drew Carey show since PAX turn ION network had it don't forget when A&E have rights to Night court
