Adding a second 522 to the house

Hello everyone... new to satellite, new to the forum!

I had a 522 and an 811 installed originally, the 811 connected to my HDTV DVI and the 522 to 2 standard TVs. After getting tired of the HD programming de-resing every 5 minutes, and noticing that the 4 HDTV channels didn't really show anything I needed to see in HD, I dropped the HD programming.

I really like the 522 though and use the DVR A LOT! I noticed they ran 3 lines from the dish into the splitter, and those 3 lines went to the house, 1 to the 811 and two to the 522. DISH says you can only have 1 522 per household, but I noticed you can buy them on E-bay and elsewhere.

Question: Can I run a 4th line from the emply dish port to the switch, then into the house and into a second 522 unit and use that 522 as a stand alone PIP capable DVR unit? The wiring seems straight forward enough, but there must be a catch.

Be warned: DISH is NOT activating 522s that you find somewhere, such as eBay. (See this thread.) That should negate your other questions.

As you said yourself, you need TWO feeds for a 522. You only have one available at the switch (NOT splitter).

You CAN however, get a 501/508/510 which is a single tuner DVR. They're all the same except for disk size - and the 510 carries an extra $5 VOD fee.
