adding another receiver in my room

My parents upgraded their dish network package and we got a new box.

they took mine out of my room and I have to use a UHF/RF remote now to connect to the box upstairs to change my tv.

I talked to them about adding a new box in my room downstairs but they said I wasn't eligible to downgrade and I'd have to buy their HD package and then pay another fee because I didn't even use the HD. and it ended up being like 30$ extra a month just for having a box in my room.

anyways.. I argued with them for a while and they finally said that I could buy my own box online or at a flea market and just unplug the cable from the back of my tv and put it into the box.. and it'd work with the IR remote and everything.

I found out that I would have to unplug the cable from the 625DVR upstairs as well though and plug it into a switch or LNB? ..not really sure.

I took some pics of the LNB's on the dish outside ..but I don't appear to have a switch.. I looked on the outside of my house where the wires come in, and on the inside and there's not. ..I took a few photos of the satellite and the setup that goes into the DVR to show you.

basically I'm just wondering the cheapest way to get a box in my room so I can use an IR remote (I have a logitech harmony remote).. and to hook the receiver back up with my windows media center again. I don't need a HD receiver or anything since we don't have any HD packages.. however my tv is an hdtv.

if it's easy enough I'll try to buy the parts myself, and set it up.. if not I'll still have to buy the parts myself according to the dish network guy I talked to on the phone.. but I think I could have them set it up as long as I paid the 47$ setup fee.. and then just an additional 5$ monthly for having a second receiver?

What do you want to actually do? Your parents have a dish 1000 so that and the separator suggest the new receiver is a VIP 622 dual tuner. The cable to your room is the second tuner so you have independent channel selection from your parents. Why do you want a separate receiver what will you gain besides the extra cost?

Im not sure if I have this right.

You want to hook up your HTPC to the sat cable and use it like a tv?

I'm pretty sure satellite isnt the same way as cable.

Right now I'm watchin the super bowl on my vista pc..........but I dont think I could do this with Dish

no...

I want to get a second receiver in my room.. and hook my tv up to it.

he was just asking for the reason behind getting a second receiver..

which is so I can set it up with my PC (windows media center).. so I can record tv shows onto my pc.

and also so the frequency will be IR.. instead of RF/UHF and I can control it with my Harmony (logitech universal remote)

I think they are using a diplexor to feed the tv2 output back up the satellite cable and then back into your room using the cable your old receiver used.

If you don't want access to the 625 tv2 output just remove the cable going to your room from the diplexor near the dish and connected it to the second output on the LNB.

If you want to keep the 625 available in your room just buy another set of diplexors, you put one in your room, one near the dish. Connect the sat side to the LNB and the ant side to the ant side of the existing diplexor.

I'd go with a 301 or 311 when you purchase, they are dish pro and they can be configured not to go into standby, something you need with an external dvr
