Interesting development on this... I recorded this both on the HD channel and the SD channel, because too much FoodTV HD material is stretched.
But, it turned out that the HD channel showed it in 16x9 and the SD channel showed it letterboxed, i.e. same image (just at different resolution).
However, the picture is clearly not HD. It's either some intermediate resolution like 540i upconverted, or it might even be an SD 16x9 camera or even SD 4x3 that was zoomed (a professional or expert could tell).
In any event, the HD channel presentation is better resolution than the SD channel due to a) not having to letterbox, and b) larger resolution of channel itself.
PS Check the Guide for repeats of Episode One that occur regularly until Episode Two airs Sunday at 10pm ET.
