Hi all,

i've been very interested in the rescue possibilities for AMC-14, watching it go like the rest of you in its elliptical orbit.

anyways, i read in other posts that another satellite, ASIASAT-3 had a similiar problem with its launch some time ago and was rescued. here are some details about it:

AsiaSat 3

and

Solar System Exploration: Missions: By Target: Moon: Past: Asiasat

and

NASA - NSSDC - Spacecraft - Details

and

HGS-1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

some pretty interesting info there.

basically it was saved, after two moon flybys, and a reduced life. it also experienced some solar panel problems after that, but was apparantly still put to use after that for many years.

the point i am getting at is between the time of the failure (late December of 97) and its rescue to where it actually belonged (May of 98) 5 months went by.

i've posted the articles (some of which are pretty technical) for people who might care to compare/contrast some of the details between asiasats and amc-14's situation.

i guess we are in for a long wait with amc-14.
