MAILONLINE.COM - Ann Curry is begging NBC bosses to let her out of her contract so she can accept a high-profile anchor job at CNN.
Curry is reportedly earmarked for Anderson Cooper's coveted 8pm slot at the rival TV station by her former Today show boss, Jeff Zucker, who will take over as president of CNN Worldwide in February. If she quits without the green light from NBC, a clause in her contract bans her from working for any other news outlet.'Ann wants out of her contract, big time,' a source close to the situation told RadarOnline. 'She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network.'But the website claims NBC bosses are unwilling to release Curry without a fight.'If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years,' the insider said.
Zucker, previously executive producer at the Today show and one-time head of NBC Universal, wants to put Curry in the prime-time 8pm slot currently occupied by Anderson Cooper, RadarOnline reported.Curry's lawyers are arguing that her dramatic demotion from Today in April was in fact a breach of her contract terms by NBC.'Ann's lawyer feels that there is a very strong case to be made that NBC has breached terms of the deal because Curry was demoted from TodaToday is set to finish the year trailing its rival Good Morning America. Curry was dumped as co-anchor of the NBC morning show after Today lost its top spot, as bosses thought a fresh face may bring back viewers.

Same here dfergie and I wish her luck and she did get screwed at NBC and I don't blame her from wanting to get out of her contract :)

Thanks dfergie didn't know which place to post thought chit chat would be the best :)

On the flip-side of this argument, Curry began her career with NBC in 1978 as an intern and, with the exception of being a CBS anchor from '84-'90, NBC has been her primary employer; she has been with NBC the past 22-years. Before we cast stones at NBC, the company has made her a millionaire and...oh, and there is that little thing of a contract she signed. I don't make Ann Curry money, but I do sign non-compete clauses in my contacts. Perhaps if she were to buy her way out of her contract...say 5 or 10 million dollars worth? Until then, she should shut her pie-hole, serve out her contract (hell, I would push a broom and clean crappers for the money she makes), and be grateful she has such a good paying job from an employer she has been with almost 30-years.

Speaking of curry...damn, I could really go for some this afternoon: panang curry, massaman curry, yellow curry, red curry, yum!

It would suck if NBC did not renew her contract and thats in the CNN job was no longer available to her at that point.

Jake Tapper( ABC news) is headed to CNN too. Maybe CNN is trying to recruit well known media faces to restock their network and try to attract new ratings.

Just let her go . NBC is doing nothing but generating negative feelings for their network and the Today show by treating her this way. They blame her for the Today show ratings and then punish her ongoing till her contract ends? This is not a way to run their network.

Yes she has and the shakeup continues at NBC and let'shopethis helps Ann Curry for the better :) ....Steve Capus Out At NBC News http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/01/steve-capus-nbc-news_n_2599495.html

I don't see it that way...NBC is and has been paying Ann Curry a too salary. She should honor the contract she signed (a legally binding agreement) and stop her bellyaching. I signed a two year contract with an employee a few years back that I was no longer happy with after 8-months since I felt the position did not live up to my expectations. I voiced my concerns, but nothing changed, So I quietly carried out my duties until my contract expired. The company seemed surprised when I resigned and that I would not stay on at will...but that was there problem, not mine.

Anyway, Curry should shut her pie-hole and get back to work. Shame on her for using the media to exploit a private matter between her and NBC.
