Norman, Ok
I'm wanting to get a Hopper, so I called AT&T Dish Network about getting one, but they want to charge me $100's of dollars to switch from the 722. I then called Dish Network directly to talk to them about it, and they said they'd give me a free one if I switched directly to them and get rid of AT&T as the middleman. The only catch is, that I've got to cancel service with AT&T, and send my 722 back to them before they can come and install the Hopper, which will result in at least a week or more without any service. Surely there's got to be a way that Dish can do this switch without me losing service for this long period of time. Any Dish guys here that has a better solution other than spending the money with AT&T?

Thanks.

You would still have to wait 60 days before you would eligible to qualify for any new customer promotions. Can you please send me a PM with your account information? I want to review the notes that were left.

Dish can install the next day in many areas. Is that not the case with you too ?

I think it's more about getting AT&T's equipment back to them is the main issue. They want me to use their services to return the 722. I've got to wait for UPS to send a return box, and then I've got to send the box back to them. I tried to get them to just email a shipping label, but that was a no go.

Maybe things have changed, but a few years ago I was able to switch from AT&T/Dish to Dish without missing any service. The installer came out and switched out the box (522 to 622) and had my account activated. I was then able to send back the old receiver.

There was never any mention of a 60 day wait period. Sounds like I almost fell for a "Bait and Switch" I'd prefer to only call you with my personal information. Not that I don't trust you, but forums get hacked all the time, and I don't want my personal account numbers listed through PM's

Trust Zach about the 60 waiting period. The regular CSR's are known to give out incorrect information all the time. And DISH will not back them up. Stay with Zach and the DIRT team.

No, it's not. Did you read Zach's response ? They can shut you off with the push of a button when you cancel your service. They don't care if you return the box or not, but you will because they'll charge you hundreds of dollars for it if you don't.

Are these AT&T receivers? I'm not familiar with the AT&T/Dish stuff. Isn't it just a bundled account that can be unbundled?

I'm sure they are Dish receivers, but.... You have to send the receivers back and get new ones because Dish's computers won't allow them to change the old receivers to a new account number... Just guessin'!

Seems odd. We have customers that bundle with Windstream here and if they want to change it they just call Dish and they get a new account number.

DISH's contract when they entered the agreement with at&t created a customer that used DISH technology but did not belong to DISH. at&t was expected to switch DISH customers to at&t Uverse customers as Uverse grew thankfully that hasn't happened but at&t protected them selves so they could do as they pleased with "THEIR CUSTOMERS".

Yeah, they really are AT&T customers, not Dish customers. This has been a PITA for such situations. Of course, it got Dish a lot of business and when AT&T switched to DirecTV, it did hurt Dish, at least as far as the total subscribers numbers.

When I moved from Ohio to California I was bundled with AT&T and wanted to switch directly to DISH because my cousin already had AT&T service in his house. They were able to unbundle my service with AT&T and set me up with an account. I was still able to keep my Dishplayer 625 without having to switch out equipment. This was 2007 though and I think my circumstances are different. I didn't want any promotions, just to use Dish Mover and to keep my equipment at the time.

AT&T Dish was a nightmare. I would call and the AT&T CSR would tell me to call DISH and DISH would tell me to call AT&T whenever I had issues with service.
