something happened to ESPN and ESPN 2 this weekend, yesterday during the NASCAR Nationwide Series race, the channel went dead and wasn't showing anything but a messed up frozen video for a few minutes, and it happened again on ESPN today during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race a while ago. it came back on but i want to know if anyone else noticed the signal going dead on ESPN's end. normally when a channel disappears, it usually showing "Complete signal lost, at "My" end not at "Their" end.

however when the channel went out, i was able to pause and rewind, which meant it wasn't on my end.

i want to know if everyone else had this problem the last two days

and do you think it may be sunspots may have cause this channel outage for a short while.

yes its sun outage time...started this past Friday

You'll see things like this for the next week or so. I lost 2 programs I wanted to view on my big dish (C-Band) because during that time I had a sun outage :(

outages last between 9-13 minutes and it can come from different sources. But they can last less depending on the satellite being used

Dish or Direct sat or even the uplink satellite that the channels use (not the DBS ones..the actual sat out there for cable/satcos to get the original) can have outages. The examples I gave above were on my 6 foot C-Band dish

IN the case of the Steelers CBS probably had 2 feeds of the game on 2 satellites (actually they usually do). So when one satellite is part of the outage they can flip to the other satellite.

I had an outage yesterday on local Pittsburgh ABC during the WVU game...went to WTAE splash screen then eventually picked up the SD feed...after the next commercial (about 15 minutes later), the HD feed was back. It sure does sound like a sun outage based on the descriptions here.

Sun outages will be inside these dates; time dependent on your area and orbital slot, but only on these dates.
