Anyone had luck getting significantly viewed channels turned on?

Anyone had any luck getting Dish to turn on significantly viewed channels.

My zip is 73550/ Harmon County and our designated DMA is Oklahoma City. The FCC site lists the Wichita Falls/Lawton DMA with three channels as significantly viewed. I have called regular Dish customer service, emailed CEO@echostar.com AND the three channels listed with no response.

I have now talked to corporate headquarters and sent one rep there a copy of my email .

Geeze, the OKC channels are 185 miles away while Lawton is 85 miles and Wichita Falls is 124 miles. Maybe I need to email/call some advertisers on those channels to let them know they are being cheated out of a lot of viewers.

Anything else I could do?

Be patient, some day they will offer the signals to us. Knowing DISH they will want to charge extra for what they already uplink.

geeze the wichita falls/lawton channels are on 129, a flip of the switch is all that is needed.

What are Enhanced Locals?
Recently Congress and the FCC established a list of stations from local markets that are “Significantly Viewed” in a neighboring market. This means that satellite carriers can, with the agreement of the television station, offer certain stations to certain counties that are outside of their Designated Market Area (DMA). DISH is very excited to be able to offer Significantly Viewed channels in these counties in a new Enhanced Locals Package offering. Customer’s who qualify for Enhanced Locals will have these channel(s) automatically added to their account at no extra charge. These channels can be found in the 6000 channel range in the Electronic Programming Guide.

No extra charge is probably the problem Charlie hasn't figured out how to charge extra. Our DMA has 2 stations which DISH charges us $3.99 for. The Dallas channels are delivered by the cable companies in our county, if they were added at NO EXTRA CHARGE we would be getting them cheaper than the Dallas customers.

No extra charge is probably the problem Charlie hasn't figured out how to charge extra. Our DMA has 2 stations which DISH charges us $3.99 for. The Dallas channels are delivered by the cable companies in our county, if they were added at NO EXTRA CHARGE we would be getting them cheaper than the Dallas customers.

You're paying a reduced price because it doesn't have all the major networks. If adding the channels meant you get all four networks, no doubt you would pay the standard locals rate.

I just spoke with a person over at Dish. He found the list they had who were offering (not all locations have this available). It was a small list of 5-6 counties. Sounds like a new feature they are beginging to offer.

This would be benefitial to me, I've been asking to pick up the Miami stations rather than the West Palm stations for ages now. I get both via my OTA, but we still get conflicts recording and since Miami has HD via Dish and West Palm doesn't I would prefer the HD channels.

I'm guessing they will continue to process that list and add them as time progresses. From what the person at dish gathered it should automatically be added to your list (in the 8000 range) once you get them.

EDIT: From what I remeber it was NY & TX being the first states/counties to get them.

Update: From John, Resolution Specialist at Dish:

"Thanks for your email. I will forward this along and see what direction we can take it. I will follow up with you within 7 days"

Yesterday I also emailed the Advertising Exec at the effected stations stating how many people are missing out on seeing their ads and asked them to call Dish to put a little pressure on them.

Next step, I will start emailing the paying advertisers on each channel showing them that their advertising dollars are not reaching all the prospective buyers in the area.

Thank you for you e-mail. We at Reiten Television would like to be on the Dishnetwork as well and have offered our signals to them. They have refused since they insist on carrying only one of four stations. We compromised and offered them our TV signals in Minot and Bismarck since they are the stations that offer local news. That way neither of the two areas will cheated out of their local news.Dish said no. That's where we stand right now. Dish refuses to negotiate any further....

The rule says Dish only has to carry one of each network in a DMA UNLESS the two stations are licensed in different states. Dish COULD carry both if they wanted but aren't required to (unless it falls into the 2 state rule)

Duluth, MN has 2 NBC stations. KBJR (Duluth) and KRII (Chisholm). KRII is the same as KBJR except for a 5 minute news segment and some commercials. But KBJR (even though everything is in Duluth) is technically licensed to Superior, WI so Dish has to carry both. Cable you get one or the other

So right now it sounds like Dish only wants to carry one and the owners are saying "screw it. Carry both or none"

Until Dish maps them to the correct location, they can't just turn them on. They have to map the stations in their system to the 6000 channel area and that has happened only in a few areas.

OK I thought I had this figured out, guess not, officially confused?

Dish is carrying the Lawton/Wichita Falls DMA channels (use zip 73521 to see them)

They are using the 129 and 121 sattellites of which I am pointed at 129

Kauz channel 6 129, 7816, tp 16 / 121 7861 tp 9
Kswo channel 7 129, 7860, tp16 / 121 7860 tp 9
KFDX channel 3 129, 7862 tp 16 / 121, 7862 tp 9

Couldn't I pick up the 129 channels if left un-mapped? I get a good signal when checking out the above transponders on 129.

That is part of the issue. Because they are on 129, if they opened them up to everyone who would qualify, then DIsh would have to supply a DIsh1000 to get 110, 119 & 129.

Also, with SV channels you can't get all of the stations from the market in question. You can only get the Big 4 (ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS) so Dish has to put the channels in the 6000 series of channels so they know that X address gets the full batch of locals from an area and Y address only gets some of them (plus their normal batch)

But its mainly the first reason. Dish has to find a way to put the SV channels on 110 or 119 so they don't need another dish

Uhhhh, thanks I think. So all the guys in Harmon county have to receive the channels when I can, I guess. I remember with Directv having to buy a new dish to get locals, couldn't dishnetwork do the same thing? Announce the availability of the channels alone with the requirements?

actually it is only the "big three" no fox uplink available, only abc, cbs, nbc.

I am really failing to see the logic in not getting the channels in question. They are already available over a satellite signal in my area. Can't they just do a simple database remedy that says this DMA recieves these channels? The x or y address does not come into play here,, we only get the OKC channels as allowed/ but over significantly viewed we would get the others. We are talking about a county that is about 50 miles X 50 miles with a LOT of dish subscribers. The local IPTV crappy sv has the channels available. Why can't dish?
