Anyone have there dish installed in a front or side yard thats close to a sidewalk? Has it ever gotten messed with? I am wary of putting mine up front because of the neighbors kids next door, and because of being less then 25 ft from the sidewalk.

Yeah. Mine are right up front. The sidewalk is between the fire plug and dishes. The nearest dishes LNBF's are no more than 10 inches from the sidewalk.
The kids don't mess with them 'cause they know there's a camera overlooking them.

Get some signs: "WARNING! HIGH VOLTAGE!" and hope for the best.

If it doesn't work, stick your head out your door frequently, and while holding a broom yell: "You kids keep off my lawn!" lol

Extra points if you make your wife do it, while she's wearing a housecoat!

It worked for us when we were kids, but then they didn't have sat dishes back then. But we sure stayed off their lawn!

A low impedance electric fencer is a wonderful invention. Only thing is local ordinances may trump that idea.

I have 3 dishes maybe 6 feet from a sidewalk, haven't had a problem. If you google it, people do have problems with vandals sometimes.

I had my E* dish mounted to the house side foundation, at my old house, about 8' from a sidewalk. The sidewalk allowed pedestrian access between circles/cul-de-sacs. I went probably 5 years before someone ripped the dish LNB off the arm and threw it into the neighbors yard. That was the only time in 12 years living there that I had any issues.

Now, I'm in the boonies and so far the coyotes and deer haven't messed with the E* EA dish, 1m Ku or 8' C-band. :)

simple things

Put 2' rods into the ground, one through each of several plastic dog dumps?

Motion detector wired to the sprinkler valve for that zone?

You know, even a low wire fence (1', 2' high) could send the psychological signal to not walk on your grass.

Shucks, you city slickers! One friend in town put up a sign saying, the neighbors do not like guns, and I will respect their wishes and not use my guns to protect their house or property. They have not had any vandalism since! (They got the idea off FB.)

Oops, forgot the subject: They have a KU dish, Dish Network dish and an internet dish on the parking strip, between their fench and the road - no sidewalks in that part of town!

Now that's really brave!

Lol...Push broom or regular broom? I think I already come off goofy, I think I would go with the high voltage signs.

Claymores or some other directional charge devise, loaded with dog poo, would seem to make a statement.

Yeah I wish! I would love an electric fence to go around the whole yard! But I am sure it's frowned upon in the city.

I almost bought a place like that, that had a sidewalk a few feet between houses, I should of went with that one though, I would of had a better view of the sat arc. I hope to move out of this place this year!

Not really. The power of suggestion can be very strong.
Had another thought: Paint/stencil a big FBI on the face of the dish. Or ATF, ICE or DHS.
FBI FTA BadA-- Installation
ATF, Amazing Tantalizing FTA
ICE, Inventive Communications Electronics
DHS, Delightful Home entertainment System
They may think you work for them, or are under surveillance yourself.

Two words: TALL POLES.
I had my birdview on a very tall pole when I lived next to a bar.
Didn't need much work, so when it did, a ladder did the trick!
(eventually we did put the fence up around the trailer to cover it's ugliness.)
Municipality didn't want anything permanent too close to property lines.
Never had to license the trailer. It never went anywhere!
