there's no traditional DVR. it's not needed. It will function the same way Apple does Friday baseball games - it's a live stream that you can join in progress and then, if you miss the event, you can rewatch it later like you would any show.

If I read this correctly, it includes F1TV Premium, so you can theoretically use the live broadcast trick-play via the F1TV app, assuming they don't disable it for US ATV subscribers:

F1 TV Premium, F1's own premier content offering, will continue to be available in the U.S. via an Apple TV subscription only and will be free for those who subscribe.

Edit: later reporting makes it seem like the Premium content will be in the ATV app.

Just got an email:

Hi There,

As a F1® TV Pro or Premium customer, we're letting you know that we will be phasing out direct subscriptions to F1® TV Pro and Premium.

Key Changes to note:

To keep watching F1® through to the end of the 2025 season, F1® TV Pro and Premium annual and monthly subscriptions and renewals are available until the following dates:

  • Monthly Subscriptions: From December 8th this year, fans in the US will no longer be able to purchase a new F1® TV Pro or Premium monthly subscription and existing subscriptions will no longer renew.
  • Annual Subscriptions: From October 17th this year, fans in the US will no longer be able to purchase a new F1® TV Pro or Premium annual subscription.
  • From November 17th this year, existing F1® TV Pro or Premium annual subscriptions will no longer renew.

Your subscription

Considering these changes, this is what it means for your F1® TV Pro annual subscription.

Currently your annual subscription expires on 06 March 2026. After this date you will no longer be able to renew your F1® TV Pro annual subscription.

Want to keep watching F1® through to the end of the season?

F1® TV Pro and Premium Monthly subscriptions are available for purchase and renewals until the 7th December 2025.

2026 Onwards

From January 2026, our new Formula 1 broadcast partner in the US will be Apple TV. Next season F1® TV Premium will continue to be available in the U.S., included with an Apple TV subscription only. You will still be able to purchase F1® TV Access, which remains available in the US.

Thank you.

The F1® TV Team

Some more info:

It is steering away from a policy of locking everything behind a paywall. It is also embracing the premium F1 TV product as an added bonus rather than seeing it as a threat.
The new arrangement will give access to all F1 practices, qualifying sessions, sprints and races for Apple TV subscribers – with no extra cost element involved.
However, a select number of races – suggested to be around four or five over the season – plus all practice sessions will be made available free to watch on the Apple TV app for non-subscribers.
...
One other critical aspect to the F1 deal was in ensuring the continuity of the F1 TV platform.

Rather than Apple see F1 TV as a threat and make it unavailable in its market – as is the case for UK fans who have no means to subscribe – it is being viewed as something central to the F1 offering. So much so in fact that, as mentioned above, it will be free to any Apple TV subscriber.

As Holmes explained: "This is a fantastic deal in the sense that, if you look at the current prices and subscription levels for F1 TV as a standalone, you'll actually get it for less.

More details trickling out:

Based on the article I posted, it seems what you quoted might be jalopnik's interpretation / expectation, and appears to be incorrect. We'll see as more things come into focus.

Yeah, the reporting on this is all over the place.

It's an easy assumption to make, it's what I would expect to be true for a traditional deal like this. The difference is the US is a secondary market for F1, at best, so perhaps all we'll need to do is connect our Apple and F1TV accounts to access the content in our region.

Apple TV+ is now Apple TV
