Are HD PPV movies presented in widescreen?

I apologize if this had been answered elsewhere. I had rented Knocked Up off of a standard def PPV channel, and it was presented in fullscreen. :(

I'm looking at renting both Hostel and Transformers in HD. Also, can these PPV movies be transfered to an ext. HD through the DVR?

The movies I have seen have been OAR, so yes to widescreen. And you can record them and move them to the external drive.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but 2.35:1 PPV HD movies are NOT shown OAR but open matte.

I thought the ppv had a notation for when the presentation is in widescreen. No notation means it is in fullscreen.

I tried looking both online and through the guide, but was unable to find anything about whether it was presented in ws of fs. Now, I would assume that any HD content on PPV would naturally be presented in widescreen format, but the last thing I want to do is rent a movie like Transformers in HD and have to watch it in FS.

I looked through the guide myself, appearently the widescreen notation (LBX) is only used on the sd ppv's.

I think you are correct db2. I just checked a few of my saved movies on the external drive and both of the 2:35 movies I have are shown open matte.

To the OP, HD movies will be shown to fill the entire 16:9 screen, but no stretching or zooming is involved so it does not affect the PQ.

Ch 506 & 512 have letterbox SD PPV. All HD PPV should be widescreen by definition.

Anyone know if HD PPV will delete or un watchable w/o another fee after fully viewed???? Expires like Dishonline movies?????

They are open matte -- fool screen. They are 16:9 when they should be 20x9. For 16:9 movies like A Bridge to Terabithia, it's all good. However, I wasn't too happy paying $4.99 for a cropped Casino Royale. I guess they figure if we're dumb enough to pay $5 for a down-rezzed bit starved HD PPV, then we're dumb enough to want "NO BLACK BARS" on our screens.

I'm not sure about them not expiring - I recorded Transformers on Friday (Nov 30), and moved it to my external hard drive that evening. When I went to watch it Sunday night, it was gone. I don't know if this was a hard drive error (everything else is still there) or if Dish is only allowing viewing for the 'all-day' PPV purchase period. Anyone else have this happen?
