When the spectrum for satellite radio was allocated, the FCC specifically prohibited one entity from owning both frequencies.

A solution would be to eliminate one or the other license, replace half the subscribers receivers, and move on.

The problem is high programming costs. Other companies in similar situations have declared bankruptcy, renegotiated the high contracts, and survived.
 
Blaming any problem with the economy on th satellite radio situation makes no sense. You can criticize for the govt for not acting as quickly as we might like but the delay is not having a significant effect on the economy.
