As if it's not bad enough we have a hurricane coming our way, they had to give it a name nobody seems to agree on how to pronounce

Around here, Winter Storm Warnings have the same effect. Bread, Milk, and Eggs cleared out. The first time we were affected by this, Papa Foxbat made the observation that people were preparing to make batches of French Toast to live off of during the blizzard. That stuck with me.
Rather have the Hurricanes vs Winter Storms/Blizzards.

I remember being trapped in my home for a few days ( a couple of times, a week)back in Michigan during the real bad ones, before the trucks finally do their job.

Since moving to Florida 6 years ago, 3 Hurricanes have hit, was back out the next day.

Also, not so fond memories of taking care of snow/ice on my own property.

While I cant imagine either are much fun, many around here have been through some terrible hurricanes that left areas without power for weeks, or months.

In a time of year where temps are in 90s and 100s with roads impassable for wide areas, and some towns just gone.

Its pretty miserable.

Michael left us in the dark for about 10 days....that was long enough to teach me some serious lessons.
One very important rule when it comes to generators is that while it is fine to have a big enough one to run the whole house, that is totally impractical for extended periods due to fuel consumption and availability. I also have a 2.5k that uses just 1 gal of gas for 8 hrs. Many larger ones use about a gallon per hour. It is also very important to buy gens that are DUAL FUEL. Yes, you will pay more initially but LP gas can sit for years and be ready to use when the need arises. I also buy gens that are the inverter type due to the clean power they put out.

Same happens during Winter Storms/Blizzards.

Again, same answer, but what is better, 90s-up, or minus 0F, 12-15" of snow, those roads also impassable.
Its pretty miserable.
Rather not shovel a lot of snow in freezing and under temperatures, since I have experienced both, rather have the hurricanes.

That is my tank for my stand by at my house ( currently being remolded) in Kissimmee, enough for 2 weeks at full power, 4 weeks if we are conservative with our power usage.

I always took the attitude of being able to wear more layers for staying warm; you can only strip down so far before you run out of options. But, that's just me. My old friend loved the heat, moved to the Phoenix metro area to live out his retirement years never having to worry about snow again.

That's me as well. I can always put on another jacket.

Not that that kind of cold is pleasant in any way.

Not to discount your experiences, and obviously you are as welcome to your opinions as anyone here.

But in the timeframe you've given and the area you are in, I can't recall which wide area damaging hurricanes you've experienced.

Many are severe weather events that could, but sometimes don't leave a lasting impact beyond a few days. In those cases, I definitely agree with you.
The ones that do however, are catastrophic. I am not overstating it that in some cases, some towns were simply. Gone.

You've not seen one of the big ones yet. ;)
I know alot of transplants that have gone through their first (or second) and get the attitude that " well that wasnt that bad". And they may be right. Not all cause much damage, and its easy to let your guard down.

So the next one, they dont prepare properly. Even with people that have been here forever and have experienced devastation warning them to not take any of them lightly. Especially along coastal areas.

Just another reason for them to think they need to RAISE Gas prices back up ... alot of places have dropped 20-30 cents around here, for the moment.

I was seeing $3.55/$3.65 in some places on the way home today, but others were still up $4.00

Apparently they heard the message about raising prices here. $4.12/gallon 7 miles from us, $4.46/gallon 3 miles from us. 🙁

Yes, Hurricanes kill 10x more people than snow storms!

Lots of our stations went up .20 cents overnight with people evacuating/heading home early from Cruisin the Coast and the Bama beaches.

Ian ( my first) flooded a lot here, there is a retirement community not far from my house, here is a link of one example-
