SatelliteGuys.US (Member)

(SatelliteGuys.US) In an apparent disagreement with its author and retailer of DishNetwork services and equipment, VMC Satellite, Inc., after the publishing of a story containing the misleading byline, "Echostar Purchases Voom HDTV Satellite Company," the company has now agreed to retract the story after being confronted by a member of SatelliteGuys.US.

The article was originally posted March 7, 2005, in the middle of an ongoing dispute for control of a struggling asset of Cablevision's, Voom a high definition satellite service and a direct competitor of Echostar's, DishNetwork.

Being confronted with the evidence and the possibility facing a formal investigation by multiple government agencies notified of the article along with accompanying situational analysis of potential impact, VMC Satellite, Inc of Great Falls, Virginia announced its intention to a retraction of the offending story in writing.

Cited with potential misrepresentation of the facts with possible intentions of monetary gains through malfeasance which included possible financial market manipulation and countless other charges that may ensue, the SatelliteGuys.US member who confronted VMC Satellite, Inc, felt he was successful in achieving clarity in truthful and unabusive journalism. Adding, he will remain watchful in seeing the retraction is indeed carried out.

In a written statement, Jose Rodriguez of VMC Satellite to a member of SatelliteGuys.US, Rodriguez stated: "While analyzing these articles in question, we have decided to go ahead and retract them." He stated furthermore, "The process is very time consuming, and costly. In the future we will be careful to make sure we follow guidelines in regards to press distribution." In an attempt to show no wrong doing he states, "Though we do not feel we have committed a violation, our decision is based on the time and cost of researching such claims, so a retraction has been completed."

It is noted while the decision to retract the statement, it in no way vindicates VMC Satellite, Inc for their actions and still may be subject to investigation and prosecution for the article. MC Satellite, Inc. is located at 10205 Colvin Run Road, Great Falls, VA 22066 and can be visited on the web at http://www.theonlydish.com.

Have you read updated news, there is no joint venture. Echostar is purchasing all of VOOM's assets. For now they are working together until the transition period is over. Echostar will own VOOM. This is from a cablevision press release...so what is the problem with the story...nothing misleading about the post. The person is spreading the news that already has been made public...and????? Read about it on Cablevision.com. Research required before posting unresearched and incorrect info.

Echostar will actually own Voom or will they just own the satellite and uplink center? There's a big difference between owning the equipment only and owning both the equipment AND the programming.

From Cablevision press releases: "BETHPAGE, NY, January 20, 2005 — Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE:CVC) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement for Rainbow DBS Company LLC to sell its direct broadcast satellite and certain other related assets to a subsidiary of EchoStar Communications Corp. (Nasdaq: DISH) for $200 million in cash. Under the terms of the agreement, EchoStar will acquire the Rainbow 1 satellite, located at the 61.5 degree W.L. orbital position, as well as FCC licenses to construct, launch and operate DBS services over 11 frequency channels at the 61.5 degree W.L. orbital location. In addition, EchoStar will acquire the contents of Rainbow DBS's ground facility in Black Hawk, S.D. and related assets."

Also: "Bethpage, N.Y., March 8, 2005 — Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE: CVC) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with its Chairman, Charles F. Dolan, and Thomas C. Dolan, pursuant to which the parties will work cooperatively to finalize the separation from Cablevision of its Rainbow DBS operation. The agreement allows Rainbow DBS to remain in operation and to continue to provide its VOOM service to subscribers while Charles and Thomas Dolan seek to arrange an alternate transaction that would avoid a shutdown of Rainbow DBS. Charles Dolan has agreed to fund any costs incurred by Rainbow DBS above those that would have been incurred under a shutdown scenario. The agreement, which was approved by the Board of Directors of Cablevision at a board meeting today and by a special committee of independent directors, terminates on March 31, 2005."

Maybe not the name....?

Maybe not the name VOOM, but what else is there? It's like taking someones vital organs, and just leaving the body there...what good is it. VOOM will be gone, and Echostar will enhance their services with VOOM's primary assets.

Echostar to pick up programming?

Well, I hope I don't get anyone in trouble, but an "E source" has put it this way (to me) ... "It looks like Dish is going to pick up VOOM programming."

I don't know if that means some or just how much. I don't know if it is certain.

I've actually been sitting on this for a week or so (and could hardly stand not posting it), and you know how intense things are on this board lately. Take it for what it is worth.

I would add, that this was told to me BEFORE the Adelphia bid. That MIGHT change things. (Although I would think it would be another way to be competitive with cable).

I just want to add that affiliates of VMC are just that. They are a private entity selling the DISH for commission and are responsible for their own actions. VMC does not condone any wrongful actions taken by their affiliates. On many occasions they are not aware of what some affiliates do. Quoted from original post : "the company has now agreed to retract the story after being confronted by a member of SatelliteGuys.US." "VMC Satellite, Inc of Great Falls, Virginia announced its intention to a retraction of the offending story in writing." the SatelliteGuys.US member who confronted VMC Satellite, Inc, felt he was successful in achieving clarity in truthful and unabusive journalism. Adding, he will remain watchful in seeing the retraction is indeed carried out."

This is incorrect info and irresponsible of the author of this post. The affiliate of VMC does not represent himself as being VMC,Inc.. When stating the company made a statement, this is not true. The company never made a statement, maybe an affiliate did.

"VMC Satellite, Inc of Great Falls, Virginia announced its intention to a retraction of the offending story in writing." Simply not true. When reporting facts people must be careful on what they report. Writing false info is very damaging and very misleading to it's reader." There is no official intent to retract in writing from VMC, that is 100% false. They did not write the original article, nor have they wrote any kind of intent letter. This kind of journalism as reported and authored by user Bradley is very disappointing, and incorrect. I visited the website provide by Bradley, and it is not a VMC website, it is a private website. So lets remember to be sure of facts that are provided as some kind of press release or information report. This type of journalism can affect an author's creditbility. Stating "The Company" referring to VMC,Inc. is not correct.

vmcaffiliate,

as far as we know Echostar has not picked up any programming so the jury is still out on that one. The only thing that Echostar bought so far has been R 1 and the facility. No programming. This is wha the original poster was stating. VMC tried to tell the story like Echostar bought VOOM in its entire. Voom is not only R1, voom has a core of HD programming produced by then and only for them. This includes producers, executives, camera crew and HD facilities to take of editing and so on... As far as we know Echostar did not buy that part of VOOM --- programming as of today.

Right, Echostar did not "buy" the whole package - only the things Sean mentioned. But subsequently, further steps are going on that could potentially impact some of the rest.
