Best Facial Hair in Sports

Speaking of Staches and Giambi.....

For yesterdays game, New York distributed 20,000 replica mustaches in support of the All-Star candidacy of Giambi.

"I didn't really think I was going to turn into a fashion icon," he said. "A lot of wannabe Italians. I love it. If you really sit back, it's really a humbling experience to think of everything that I've gone through and the things that, you know, I've battled back from."

Following the game, ESPN actually showed Giambi's stats from before the mustache and with the mustache. It's not even close! Giambi is much more productive at the plate while sporting the stache!

When you think of facial hair in sports, you have to think of Rollie:

Rollie these days:

Yup. That stache is definitely a classic! When a guy is more known for his mustache than his on-field accomplishments, you know it is something special!

I'd say he was pretty well known for both, contributing on several World Series teams and World Champions.

I'm not downplaying Rollie's accomplishments, but "mustache" is the first thing I think of when Rollie Fingers' name is mentioned.

Goose Gossage's facial hair certainly made him look more intimidating; and Luis Tiant's facial hair made him look like a sheisty car dealer.

Another nomination...

Middle reliever Chad Gaudin was always so clean shaven when he was with the Athletics, but as you can see he's been working all off season on something special for the Cubs.
