what a joke.

So someone does something good like stopping a thief yet he gets fired because some POLICY basically says "yeah let the guy rob the place and maybe shoot someone. Just stand there like a statue and let him do it"

Screw that I would have done the same thing
 
And you would have gotten fired.

These big corps won't take a chance that the employee gets hurt and sues, or the thief gets hurt and sues. Sad, but it's been that way for quite a few years.

I still remember the days of chasing down and tackling thieves at the record store. Yes, I said records! :)
 
I wonder if a law could be passed preventing stores from interfering with employee's (citizens) rights, in this case, to stop a crime.
 
If the person was harming someone I think it might be different. But the person is breaking the law. It turns the employee into a law officer. Every store has this policy.
