Can I get OTA HD without subscription?

I'm wondering if on a 211 if I can use it for OTA HD without having it connected to a dish and paying the fee for it?

nope

some of the older receivers would function as OTA tuner without subscription, I think they have been disabling that functionality in more recent software.

Darn I wanted to use it as just a OTA tuner without paying the $5 a month for a while anyway as I don't want to redo my dish setup quite yet to hook this thing up. If I have them activate it will it have to stay connected to a Dish?

Darn. My problem is I already have my Dish maxxed out so can't hook up another reciever without redoing it all. I wouldn't mind activating the reciever I just don't want to have to redo my Dish setup. I guess I'll have to figure something out. Sucks that they won't let you use it without a subscription.

Obviously this is by design. They don't want you using the Dish hardware for free. They'll want to $5 you to death.
