I'm thinking of upgrading to HD, but I like being able to take one of my receivers in the camper with me. Will I be able to run the HD receiver with my old Dish 500 satellite dish? Obviously it won't be HD, but will it work? I just don't want to buy another HD dish just for the camper that I use a few times a year.

Later on if I want HD do I just need new LNB's?

Yes it will work for SD reception. You will need to run a check switch each time you change dish configurations.
Cool. Is it possible to upgrade my Dish 500 to HD later on or just easier to buy the HD dish? What model of HD dish should I look for? I will have 3 dual receivers, but for the camper I would just have the one dual on occasion.

These HD channels are on the 110 satellite
USA
Syfy
TNT
ESPN
HDNET
HDNET Movies
Velocity
CBS Sports Net
PLanet Green
WGN

plus a few movie premiums and a couple in the platinum (now blockbuster) pack

If you are using a VIP receiver (HD), then you could look at the EA for 61.5 and 72.7 with the D500 dish.

true...also I noticed his loc says KCMO which I assume is Kansas CIty. Those locals in HD are on both arcs so 61.5/72 would work
