We don't watch much Satellite TV anymore, so I just called to get deactivated. The support person said that I won't be able to watch anything on the DVR (VIP722 receiver) after it is deactivated. So I had them schedule the deactivation out for 1 week.

Is it true that the recorded content on the DVR won't be accessible anymore? If so, is there a way to prevent this from happening - like disconnect the dish and the internet from the receiver before it is deactivated?

Disconnect ASAP. Like, tonight. You will buy an undetermined amount of time before the pre-programmed kill switch hits.

If you stay connected to the sat, a kill switch may be sent sooner. If you disconnect before cancelling, or very soon thereafter, you may get some days or few weeks before it dies. It phones home now and then, and no response, set a doomsday clock.

Unplug it from the Internet and even phone line, just in case.
