Can someone explain dish equipment compatibility?

I have a dish sub reciever 222 that I'd like to get to work.I've been doing alittle reading on dish equipment but I still do not have a clear understanding on which exact dish equipment I need to watch TV.Here are my questions.

1)Is the reciever compatile with any dish pro lnb?Can it work with a legacy LNB?
2)What type of dish will I need for 110/119/118.7? I have a dishpro dish that has a twin 110/119 lnb on it.Can I just add a 118 lnb to the dish or will I need a different dish like the 1000?
3)What type of switch will I need? DPP33,DP34?Can a 4x1 disqec switch work?

With all the new dish technology,I just wish there was a site or post that broke all this stuff down.Maybe this can be the one if none exist.thanks guys.

Well I think we need some more info. What kind of programming do you want? Were do you get your locals? If you need international programming, then a 1000+ with a dpp44 switch and separator is going to handle everything you need. That is assuming you want hd. You need to find out which satellite has your high def locals. If it is on 129 then what I said will be good to go. If it is on 61.5 then a wing dish is necessary. If you don't care about hd then a 500+ with either a dp34 switch (you will need two lines from the 34 switch - no separator), a dpp33 switch or a dpp44 switch will do. If you don't need international programming then a 1000.2 or a 1000.4 (depending on whether hd locals are on 61.5 (.4) 129(.2)) will handle everything fine with a separator without a switch.

The only receivers that have comparability issues are legacy receivers. Receivers with four digits cannot work with dish pro lnbs without an adapter. SD receivers are not compatible with the 1000.4 due to encoding. All receivers are compatible with legacy lnbs and pro plus lnbs. However, legacy receivers have been known to burn up dpp lnbs when only one receiver is attached.

To answer your question, no you cannot just add the 118.7 to a regular 500. You might could get a 500+ just for the 118.7 and plug it into a dish 500 with a dpp twin using a separator. But unless you get some standalone fss dish (118.7 is fss) then the 500+ is the only dish branded solution. You would need two of each output in order to use 2 4x1 switches (one for each receiver input) that would be difficult especially with the 118.7 since the 500+ only has one 118.7 output. I know direct uses splitters with their 4x1s but I don't know how that would work with dish network equipment. It might be possible with a 500+ using splitters on the outputs going into two 4x1s but my practice has been that splitters are only for mirroring. Hope that helps.

3. A diseqc switch wont work for Dish Network. You can use either a DPP33 or DP34 if no HD or a DPP44+ if you need HD. If you use the 34 switch you need two lines to the 222. The DPP33 since its DishProPlus can use the separator at the receiver

If you dont need international channels and no HD then 110 & 119 is all you need

DishPro receivers work with all Dish Network satellites. The model numbers are three digits. The legacy receivers are four digit numbers and only work with legacy lnb's and switches unless you use a dishpro adapter or DPP lnb/switch.

You need to use a DISH 500+. You'll probably not manage a frankendish combo. As Iceberg points out as the DISH 500+/1000+ LNBs are the only ones that work.

Programming I need is 110/119/118.7.My local area is dallas/forthworth.
I now understand I will need dish 500+ LNB's but is one of the pics I posted above a 500+LNB?If so which one? And if not can you post a pic of what exactly is a 500+lnb?

Well, I'd like to set it up at my bro's home for big events.So I don't think dish will come out to his house and set it up free right? Now someone did suggest to tell dish im moving to that location so that means free install but I don't want to take the risk of them uninstalling the dish at my house or else I'll end up without one as well.

It isn't so much a set of LNBs as a one-piece module. It works only with the Plus dish, so if it comes installed on a DISH 500+, it is the one you're looking for.

My understanding is that it won't fit any other dish without modification (this is a good thing as it needs the bigger dish for the low-power signal from 118.75W).

Since you just want to do it for the big game type of events. You should be able to use the single LNB and point it at the satellite that is carrying the game.

But you'll have to activate the receiver on your existing home setup first. Then carry it over there and hook it up.

But don't leave the receiver over there. Bring it home when you are thru with the game.
Families are great, but you will get screwed over every time.
Remember, anything thats done with that receiver is your responsibility. If he orders porn, or sports season tickets or anything for that matter. It gets charged to you.

This is one of those situations that sounds good in theory, but in reality can backfire really bad.

I kinda did something like this for my parents a few years ago.
I had a 522 for myself and got a basic receiver to carry with me when I would go to visit my parents during holidays.
My dad was a baptist preacher and never showed any interest in watching TV, except for football games. So I figured I would feed his need while I was there.

Well, he talked me into letting him keep it for a while.
Two months later my mom calls and says she wants the thing removed from the house because all my dad was doing was watching football during the day and porn all night. He was 72 at the time.
I had a friend that was a dish installer go get the receiver and send it back to me.
I am in VA and they were in FL.
My friend told me when he called me to let me know he had sent it out, that I may not want to ever plug the receiver back into a phone line. There was close to $800 worth of porn and sports programming on the receiver that hadn't been transmitted yet.
He said it looked as if someone had hacked the harddrive or memory and used a counterfeit card to override the purchase limits.
One of my nephews is the only one in the family with the skill and knowledge to have been able to do that.
As son as I got it back, I opened it up to make sure none of the security tabs and seals had been broken(which they were all good). So I put it back together and used it in my bedroom for a little while.
Then one day it quit working and I sent it back to dish.
I got lucky because dish never did send me a bill for what he had watched.

Would I do it again for anyone?
Never in a million years!!

yes to ytour first question..No to your second.
There is no way , without undertaking a mad scientist project, to use a standard single LNB to receive 118.7.
118.7 is a Fixed Service Satellite that sends horizontal and vertical polarity.
Most Dish LNB's receive Digital Satellite Service. Circular (left and right) polarity.

actually 118.7 sends circular polarity...its using the FSS band (11.7-12.2 Ghz) versus DBS which is 12.2-12.75Ghz
